Anybody witness the fiery crash in Denver involving a trucker?

That is one the current battles, getting a net output. I saw something a few months ago were that has happened, although the bigger challenge is maintaining containment for an extended period. It's all done with magnetic bottles right now, and yes, keeping the superconductor magnets cool is part of the challenge. But it is still the energy source of the future. For now, fossil fuels and alternative sources are still cheap enough that they aren't going away anytime soon.
