This particular position was out of Brownstown, Mi from a search utilizing my zip code in Cbus Ohthe tractors I saw before I jumped for better were single axle sleepers running yrc pups.

No. OTR is Satan in disguise. LTL position up in my area claims "Startng pay", that's the caveat here, of $70,000 a year plus a $10,000 sign on bonus. They're just ramping up and they have big plans in mind.
The orange tide, she's a coming boys.
I'm not the only rat jumping ship; I saw XPO and Schneider bailing ABF and YRC guys out of the primordial goo and soon to come to a double feature near you

It's just another Schneider gimmick!! All the pay and treatment you can ask for but yet their turnover rate is insane hmm sounds about right!! The majority of customer's in the freight business won't put up with damaged freight late pick ups and deliveries and their properties being destroyed by under trained steering wheel holders Schneider will use to fill seats once people get the experience they need to get a GOOD freight job. Why is it that a driver can apply to Schneider and be in orientation within a day or two but it will take 1 2 or even 3 months to even get an interview with most freight companies?? Above industry standard experience I'd imagine!!

I think it requires experience to be done well, and professionally. It also requires decent pay. I've had customers tell me they use us for more important stuff they need there on time and damage-free (both of which numbers are extremely high), and a specific other carrier when they don't care as much. That place has much lower pay per contract concessions, is hiring drivers with months, not years, of experience, and has resentful senior drivers who no longer care. The company got what what they paid for, and their customers have to make a decision about what kind of service they want. My point is I don't think anyone can mega-ize LTL and still have a quality service.

Also, I don't think you can equate XPO and Schneider. XPO bought an actual LTL company. Schneider is doing an entirely different thing. I don't know about them "bailing out" ABF drivers. Even YRC. That sounds odd to me. XPO, maybe. Schneider, no.

I happen to know @mickeyrat . He is a good man, with excellent Googling skills (not to mention a former Schneider driver with a real LTL job). The post he found tells the tale, and I've done a similar job. I agree with @City-Boy - it's a gimmick. That job amounts to long-range P&D in a sleeper truck tailgating garbage freight (boxed furniture and carpet). While it is technically "LTL" loads, they are using that term as a gimmick, because everybody knows LTL drivers are rich and handsome.

I dont think its a gimmick. They bought out Watkins Shepard. I hear many of their drivers jumped ship as a result. At the time , it was claimed WS would be seperate. But most saw that for what it was. Fertilizer.

Have seen WS pulling Wally trailers to fill in on that account for SNI.

My take is, since SNI went public earlier this year, the WS purchase was to bolster their overall attractiveness.

So, IF you ARE still interested, track down some watkins drivers here. They can give the scoop as to what the job fully entails.

    Good info.

I meant gimmick in the sense that LTL as most people know it isn't driving a sleeper all over the place making multiple stop deliveries. While it is technically LTL freight, it is NOT an "LTL freight job," if that distinction makes any sense. Nobody would have ever included Watkins Shepard in a list of LTL companies before.

    From their website:
"Now, as part of Schneider, we are one of the nation's leading final-mile-delivery provider of LTL, truckload and logistics for home funishings and over-dimensional goods serving traditional and omnichannel retailers."

Translation: garbage freight. If they pay $70k, that means those drivers are earning it, and probably deserve way more (much like city drivers at real LTL companies who are home every night). I've never worked for ABF, and I know they do things a little differently than at my company, but I cannot imagine that job being a step up from ABF.

I should also note that 70k also includes the performance based bonuses.

70k had an asterisk. read the text for the asterisk.
