Anyone an OO in the oilfield?

    I'm curious. I make ok money. But wonder if being an OO in the oil field would be better. Compared to chasing load board freight.

    The long and short of it is that being in the oilfield does not automatically mean more profit.

    It's possible to make plenty of revenue (depending on who you lease to, what you haul, and what the market is doing), but your maintenance expenses are going to go up because oilfield work is hard on a truck.

    I'm a company driver, but I talk to the OOs who are leased on with my employer.

    I did crude oil and water hauling in Odessa, like 10 years ago. I have done OO as flat, step, haz tankers, van, containers.

    Over the years i know guys who o/o in the patch. They only haul sand, cement, or pipe. Mostly pipe. Just about all of them were born and raised flat bedders. They make what they need and move on because the schedule is always too erratic for them. They also all run 30 and 40 plus year old trucks that can take the jobs better.
