It may just be what they have you sign for DAC. They report on everything so credit could be involved but not likely. One of the DAC categories is retail theft, usually for people applying for retail. Like I said, DAC can report on a lot of things, probably not much to worry about.

    This is the usual reason.

If you handle lots of product and / or come into contact with customer payments, like cash or a check, then companies will sometimes check to see how your credit is. The logic behind it is that someone with good credit will be less likely to steal since they aren't in much debt. On the flip side, someone with a lot of outstanding debt might steal product and sell it on the side or steal funds in order to pay off some of their debt.

If the job at Coke involves dealing with vending machines or collecting payment from customers on a route, they may want to check your credit to see if you would possibly be a "high risk" candidate.

Companies do a credit check because of three reasons:

    1. They want to see if you're responsible enough to pay your debts. If your payments are mostly on time, that says something about you. If you are always late or in default, that TOO says something about you.

    2. Are you in so much debt that an offer of cash to steal from them will be appealing? This too is a very real factor. If a $10k bribe will get you to cooperate in stealing a $300k load, that's a real issue. And it happens ALL THE TIME. Cargo theft is a real thing and it's almost ALWAYS with the cooperation of the driver.

    3. And then there's just a bureaucratic thing to tick off, because HR is covering it's behind.

Coke, some of the other really big companies out there that aren't centerered on trucking per se, are going to do this stuff. Items 1 and 2 are actually pertinent.

But it usually has to be REALLY bad credit to get you denied. I used to work in IT in the banking industry and I quite literally had the ability to steal a million $ with a few keystrokes if I had wanted to.

They ran my credit and I got questioned all over the place over a 10-year-old bankruptcy that was for medical and got hired only after providing letters attesting to the fact that it was a Medical bankruptcy.

There's NO reason to get behind on student loans. I know this because I have student loans myself and I used to work in the financial aid office at a public university.

Go to www.ibrinfo.org and you'll get information about the income based repayment plan. Now, this plan will not allow you to pay off the loans within the normal ten years but it WILL keep your credit from being hurt by them and it will keep the Dept of Education off of your back.

Remember, the Dept of Education is a part of the federal govt so they have a LOT more power when it comes to getting their money. For example, they can garnish you without getting a court order first.

You would probably have to have something filled out by your employer but who cares? With this plan they can take less than 15% of your income depending on how much you make.

This plan is for 25 years but if you have maxed out on your Stafford Loans ($138,500) it will save your credit and your peace of mind. You'll have to fill out a form every year and send in your tax returns (electronically) but it will save your credit.

You should have a servicer (or two) who are holding your loans. Hopefully you have their information, if not got to www.studentloans.gov to find them. You'll need to create an account.

You'll also need to create an account for your servicer(s) because you will be applying for the IBR plan through them.

    Hope this helps.

No surprise there. If you apply at just about ANY FEDERAL JOB-they're guaranteed to run a credit check, and then some(financials, bank statements,etc.). I used to work at airports and there are people who applied(and have been denied jobs)working for the TSA because those people have too much debt(TSA openly states that they do credit checks on applicants).

Yes i was denied once because of my credit but not for a driving job it was a property maintenance job. They told me the credit check shows how responsible you are. I told them the country is trillions in debt. Everything happens for a reason i believe and if someone who doesn't hire me it's their loss not mine. I lost a job when i was in my early 20s so i couldn't pay my credit cards with my rent so i prioritized and kept paying my rent with what i had. Since then i have no credit and no desire to have credit my credit report shows nothing. Believe it or not lots of people choose not to have any credit.

Inever could understand how anyone gets behind on student loans, i mean mine are relatively low art $69 a month, with a 6.8%interest rate. But when i couldn't afford them i just called and asked for a deferment for that month or whatever stretch of time i needed. It keeps you off the collection sides and your credit doesn't get dinged. And last i checked, my credit sucked at 534. Mine is due to getting behind I our mortgage and being foreclosed on

Sometimes, its a matter of principal. Dish was in a "contract dispute" with one of the main channels I had their service to watch, so when they dropped that channel I wrote them a note explaining why I was shorting them a few bucks on the bill. Sorry, but I'm not paying for services NOT rendered. They cut my service completely, and I called them to complain. They turned my service back on and promised a $120 credit...$10/month for a year for my troubles. Next bill shows up and doesn't reflect the credit...so I paid it minus the credit I had been promised. They cut my service once again, so I simply stopped paying them altogether. That went to collections, and I told them that unless they were cutting ME a check for $120, I didn't want to hear from them again. About that same time, I had a credit card slash my limit after making a $1500 payment...probably in part due to Dish reporting that "default". I find out on the side of the road waiting on a wrecker when I call to verify my available balance only to hear $100 available. That decision on their part cost me more than the remaining balance due, as it overdrew my account paying for the tow so I had to wait to get paid again before I could get what I needed to fix the truck...so they haven't seen a dime since. I'm sure they're dinging my credit score pretty bad, too, but what's the alternative...drive to their HQ and burn the place to the ground? Sometimes withholding payment is your only recourse.

I couldn't care less about my credit score. Don't need anything I can't pay cash for, anyways. Want me to pay? Don't try to screw me. Start playing games, and I stop writing checks.
