11 hours straight. most people read this do it and never will comment. Just a way of life for them. Get the job done and go relax laugh at the rest of us.
I do a 14 hr day 5 days a week local 1800-1900 mile Western PA, Good for them driving 11 straight. No way I could do it every week. You folks who do it much respect. Get the #### job done and go F home. Straight driving those hours makes me insane. -
I could never do this. Props to those who can.
Personally, I need to stop for bathroom and to stretch every now and then. -
Yep...I've done it...plenty of times.
I don't see any more of those runs in my immediate future though. -
You would be surprised how many drivers will use a gatorade bottle or gallon jug with a screw cap to pee in while working. Some use this method while driving down the interstate while others will simply use the bottle during the night rather than getting dressed and walking inside the truckstop to use the facilities. Its one of those subjects that very few will admit to.
Team drivers will routinely utilize porta potties while on the fly or even swap drivers without stopping. Not a safe practice but again it would surprise you how often it does happen.
Every time you stop that truck it will cost you at least 15 minutes and many times even longer. Decelarating for an exit, making the turn onto a secondary feeder road, entering the truckstop parking lot, parking the truck, writing down your location and mileage, logging the stop, exiting the cab, walking to the restroom facility, doing your business, washing your hands, walking back to the truck, doing a walk around inspection to check lights, tires, and air lines, climb back in the truck, put seat belt on, pull out of parking lot, re-enter secondary feeder road, then get back onto highway, accelerate to high way speed and voila' 15 minutes (at least) gone!
Other drivers will run over the speed limit on a regular basis thus building in a little "cushion" to their drive times. Exceeding the posted speed limit can buy you a couple of pee breaks during the day without it hurting your over all miles traveled or time on your logbook. This applies to the drivers that are watching their average overall speed and how it is recorded in their comic (sorry) "log book."
By the way, for those of you that pull over on the side of the highways, exit ramps, etc be advised the sides of the roads are where all the debris from the highways winds up. Your tires may pick up everything from nails to screws to bolts, etc. Heck, you never know what you may find on the sides of the roads now a days. Then you get to pay for a tire repair at your next shop. -
Young drivers at the company I drive for brag about wearing ''depends'' (grown up diapers) so they can drive non-stop all day. And I wonder why I only get 11 hours to deliver a load 660 miles away?
(Trk just turned down 62mph)

For some (SOME) drivers, the obsession to run all they can, breaks be ######, gets out of hand. That's why you see so many unbathed, unshaven, unsanitary malcontents. IMHO, many of them are of that school. Anything that is not moving them down the road is costing them money. Health? Not worried about it....as long it pays well.
If someone can drive 11 straight, great. I've done 11 with one 5-minute restroom break. Otherwise, 3 to 4 hours at a time is plenty.
