I used to just go in and tell the shipper I know that I am early for my pickup time but I just wanted to be sure I didn't hold you guys up!

They always treated me good and if they could get to me they did . If not they told the time that they could get to me and I just waited or came back.

I would never wait all weekend without at least trying to gey loaded first . If that didn't work I would just ask for another load so I could keep going . Monday I would have a serious talk with my dispatcher to let him know what I thought of being left in the cold while he enjoyed his week end !

you can't call the shipper and ask or schedule it yourself? if not then i'd be very pissed at the fact that the dispatcher didn't do it right to start with and that the weekend crew wasn't smart enough to solve the issue.

otherwise i guess you could just show up and see what they can do.

I know you're new to the biz, but sometimes you have to be assertive, which means YOU call the shipper and see if you can get a appt time yourself. This includes the consignee as well. Phantom appt times are common in this biz.

    jeez ain't that the truth.....

I have called a couple of times and now the dispatch is starting to leave the last number off the phones on my dispatches.....

Luckily I have copies of all my bills scanned into my computer...;)

This is how I was able to get 2 separate loads off my trailer, and have a 3 day weekend off. I called one customer and said, "I have an appointment at your company on Monday, but your load is at the tail, and the other customer's load is in the nose, they may damage your stuff"!! I was told to bring in in ASAP!!!

Then a quick call a day earlier to the second stop. I told them, "I have to make a pick up first, then be to you, you will have to unload that other freight, and reload it". I was told get it here ASAP!!

Sometimes, you just gotta lie, even if it ain't the truth!!!! :biggrin_2559:

Thanks for the replies everyone. Actually I always call the shipper to get earilier times. I even talked Walmart into getting me in early! I called the shipper about this problem and it always went straight to voicemail.

Sometimes it's all for naught, but, I'm sure you're realizing by now you, the driver, has to fend for yourself, a lot ! I remember a broker load I had from L.A.-Phoenix loading on a Friday, delivering Monday. I called the consignee and they said they'll have a skelton crew on Saturday doing some machine maintenance and would unload me if I wanted.
