it's really stupid the way they engineered this stupid nonsense. i thought my truck would escape the BS because it has a manual but no. the radio turns itself off when backing, ok i really dont like that but whatever. the part where it really becomes annoying is when i MUTE the stereo myself. if i mute the stereo and then put the truck into reverse, the radio turns on. if i back up (it shuts off), and then pull forward it turns back on by itself. idiot radio, perhaps im backing into a plant and only pulling forward to re-adjust my positioning?
why all of this annoying over-engineer monstrosity. my truck has the DEA700 radio and newer style LCD instrument cluster (i actually do like the way that looks).
why not just allow the driver to control the #### radio. i know when it should be off. i love this truck, it pulls like an animal, it rides nice, and it's almost luxuriously comfortable but these stupid nanny devices could go to h@ll
anyone else hate the way the radio operates in a newer KW

A car stereo installation place or CB shop technician might know what wire to snip which might quell your annoyance.

Interesting. I wonder if it was spec’d to be like that? I’ll have to try it in mine.

A car stereo installation shop can give you the tools necessary to remove your current stereo. Usually that tool is just a pair of U-shaped thin metal rods with threads at the tips.
You'll kick yourself for not having learned this stuff sooner.JoeyJunk and TROOPER to TRUCKER Thank this. -

I agree with you. I started driving tanker in 2017. I had a 2018 Freightliner with the DEA 500 stereo. It did the same thing. I noticed that with the DEA 700 stereo it will lose the BT connection to your phone after a few days of continuous operation. To prevent this it makes sure to turn the truck off and remove the key once every 24 hours. As I was OTR, I usually left the truck stereo on 24 hrs a day, either listening to AM/FM, Satellite, or BT (phone) even if my phone was playing nothing. After a few days of the stereo being on and connected to my phone, the stereo would either drop BT connection to g to maphone, drop BT connection to my headset, both headset and phone, or connect to headset or phone but with different settings.
I really hated the auto-mute when reversing. Like you say, if you were smart enough to mute before you started backing it may un-mute when you started. It would certainly un-mute during a pull-up or as soon as you parked it. Why am I having to manage a safety feature AND the truck? All you can do is turn the volume to 0 or radio off, not muted.Flat Earth Trucker Thanks this. -
I do my best backing with some SOAD playing at mach 5.
