I had made a decision to stay with my current company for a while, but the constant rain is having a really, really bad habit of killing my work and paycheck. i have been driving class B dump truck and have been hauling allot of blacktop too and from road paving sites. the county and state do not allow paving in the rain. i am the lowest guy on the totem pole. when the job get canceled for the day i am the guy loosing work. last week was really bad, i lost 3 days of work. the boss has actually been pretty understanding about it, but that doesn't change anything. yesterday he said he had 4 trucks sitting idle. he said the trucks are sitting and not making any money, and the guy that's supposed to be in the drivers seat isnt making any money to pay his bills. he understands but that doesn't change anything. earlier this year i worked for CE crocker and i had to leave there too. i really wouldn't have left, they were good folks. the driving was the type where i drove flatbed loaded with water and fertilizer too the farmer's field for spraying operations. when it rained heavy it would shut me down for days, even if it was nice, warm and sunny the next day the field would be wet for several days, no work.

i talk to the drivers of the other companies at the paving plant. one guy said he worked one day this week. this weather must be causing financial hardship for many workers in different industries. i dont see it being a good year for construction type work, agriculture, or any type of work that must be done outside. i was expecting the job that i am at now to at least be a little better. i had a couple of good weeks, but overall not great. i will say that the rain doesn't shut me down as long, provided its dry the next day. this week it hasn't been. rain rain rain. the boss told me this would be full time work, and i suppose if the weather behaved i would be getting overtime.

is anyone else getting screwed by this weather?

No, but I'm smart enough to not work in a weather dependent field. You, on the other hand, cannot seem to stop whining over everything.

i dont know if north carolina or the rest of the country has been as wet as it has been here, but this has to be one of the worst summers so far in my lifetime. a truly bad summer to look for the type of local trucking work that keeps you home at night. allot of these jobs are AG or construction related.

my current job was sold to me as full time. i think he told me what i wanted to hear to fill a seat. im willing to put up with whatever nonsense this job entails provided if i actually get to make some money. there are things that arent great. i have not complained to the boss about anything except the weather, and he feels the pain. as far as driving the truck recklessly, there is NO ONE else in the truck. i keep the door shut and run it the way i know safest. it doesnt matter if he said dumb things like, the driver with the most loads wins....... whatever. i run safety 1st. as far as unpaid time for pretrip, post trip, fueling, ect ect i put up with it because i realize OTR drivers have even more unpaid time. 20-30 minutes per day is nothing compared to the hours that OTR drivers dont get paid for.

Anybody with any experience or even a bit of common sense knows that construction-related trucking is dependent on weather.
If your boss could be running his trucks he would be.
    Quit sniveling.

There's not much work in road construction this year anyway. I was hoping comrade Trump would do an infrastructure bill first. But that's not gonna happen...,,,

The rain has let up a little in the northeast . But this week is the 4th so losing 2 days this week / and loving it.

dried up in the north-east? where do you live. all it did last night was pour all night. the yard is super saturated, the pool is overfilled and dumping out the skimmer, and the creek is at full rise. i know my boss isnt feeling this weather much either, not blaming him for this one.

i have been told if the weather ever breaks that we will be running hard. at this point i dont see it breaking. i have been waiting since April for that to happen.

The construction company I drove for years ago would shut down at the first rain drop. There were a couple weeks I only worked 2-3 days. That hurt.

    Relocate yourself-get out of dodge-move on-make like a banana n split-hightail it,whatever you want to call it.America is a huge country w/plenty of options.
Think about what you want to do n where----------then do something about it.If your busy working, might help get your mind off how miserable life can be.
    Just a thought.
