Volume is the exact issue..higher demand, not enough workers, in just about industry. Where the government fouled up in my opinion is allowing way too much growth. You've got more commerce than you have workers. Yes I believe most times there will be a trucker shortage, but like I said in another thread, people just don't want to be truckers and that needs to be accepted.

It ain't so much that I'm growing vertically, maybe side to side but 5'9" and 260 lbs, one thing is for sure: I'm not only handsome but my BMI is out of order....

There are plenty of Drivers sitting.......waiting on a pre plan, waiting to get loaded/unloaded, etc. We already have plenty of capacity......but Companies and Brokers are still running on a 1970's business model. There is a real "shortage" of EFFICENCY in the Logistics world.

I was reading at CDL Life that the 50 states license 400,000 new CDL applicants every year. There isn't a driver shortage. There is a shortage of drivers willing to be away from home for weeks and months, drive for 40-50 CPM, spend 40% of their time waiting for shippers/receivers to do their job, getting treated like a diseased rat by customers, and willing to walk across P drenched parking lots, and then park at a fuel pump for their 10 hour break. Some states are once again pushing to direct released prisoners to come into the industry.

Wonder how many hold valid licenses but don't want to deal with the BS?

    A lot, that's my guess.

Why deal with the bullies, and sitting for hours unpaid, to get loaded, or unloaded. Waitressing, legal secretary, hygienist, and more, all pay better. Drivers should be making $400-$700 per day, depending upon their hours, experience, and what they haul. Yet they do not, so many quietly walk away, and pursue a different career. Great driver, who is a friend of mine, she had enough about 6 years ago, became a realtor. In just her 2nd year as a realtor, she quadrupled what she made in her best year trucking, working half the hours.

Not everyone is willing to strap on a face diaper or be a guinea pig for big pharm.
