Hi Streetbeater, I have another truck I would like your opinion on: http://goo.gl/P075wf
I also attached a pic of the repairs needed before this truck is refurbished and given a 2 year drivetrain warranty. Your thoughts?
Anyone ever buy a roll-off truck from Apex Equipment?

I should mention I did a VIN scan and the truck exceeds mechanical limits on odometer and has stayed in NJ area all its life.

Its clean, functionality wise. Its got half rack pop ups, and ratchet tie downs on the tail, both nice to have. I see in the list, they took off the tarp, and the tool box, and noted the missing outside controls, are they putting it all back on or?
-
They will put these back, I understand this list as being things that need repair.
Here is another truck: http://www.truckpaper.com/listings/trucks/for-sale/7327113/2002-mack-granite-cv713 -
and thank you for your input

Well with a 2 year power train and a refurbishment, the extra money is worth it for the white one with 200 thousand fewer miles. All be it i hate those huge outside air cleaners,
if they are putting a rack n pin tarp, (like the red one) and not one of those t bar style, and there putting a decent tool box on, the white one all day and twice on Sunday. Whatever one you do eventually pick, if its got half rack pop ups, or the butterfly wings, make sure they work with no binding, people have a bad habit of painting them inoperable.

Good stuff and thank you!

Well, my old boss got his trucks from rdk in fl. (Granted he bought new) but things like this

Make me wonder why they want so much for the red one -
Side bar, (no insult intended if you knew all this) greese the living hell outta them rollers, once a week without fail. Get the seller to toss in a few extra rollers with retaining washers and cotter pins, and carry them with the truck. Also with the rack n pin tarp, where it pivots there are bristles that protect the gear, dont let rocks n dirt fall in there, (the sides of boxs get crap on em and it falls in) a rock will stop your tarp dead, think of a clock gear. Carry a few really good pairs of locking pliers. If you catch a leak in the tarp hydros you can clamp it off tape the pliers up and run manual tarp till the end of the day. (Done that) and get buddy buddy with a hose shop, (like pertek) my old boss would do dumpsters off the books in trade for hose work when he first started. (Dont know if anyone does that type of stuff anymore)

That is something to wonder and thanks I received that same advice today to grease. My search continues just I don't know enough about trucks in terms of engine and relialbity. Several people I know say go for older pre emission macks. I also don't want to get a new one since monthly payment could be killer since I can only get 4 30 yd dumpsters. But that means the truck won't be seeing everyday heavy use. But overall I appreciate your tips!
