The Jim Palmer / Wil Trans pretrip video online is basically word for word what they want to hear. If it’s metal, it’s not cracked bent or dented and if it’s rubber or plastic, there are no cuts, frays or bulges. If it holds liquid, it is not leaking and filled to manufacturers spec.
Touch everything, properly mounted and secure with no...
In Texas depending on where you do it and how many people are testing you will get a portion of the pretrip. Say from the drivers door on the tractor to the 5th wheel assembly...
Some get every part on tractor and trailer. It’s random.
Anyone from TX just get their CDL?

I got my CDL from Texas this year.
No alley dock backing. They only test the 3 maneuver backs, two of which you really wont ever use out on the road. Lol
The pre trip, you will have to know all of it. But you will draw a card. A. B. C. Or D.
A is the tractor. B is from the side compartment to the front of the trailer. C is the trailer. D is the whole truck. Regardless you will have to do the air brake test a long with the part of the truck you drew, and you have to score 100% on air brake test or you fail. You will not pass go and collect 200 dollars. You will go straight to jail and incur a debt.
I drew the trailer and easily passed. Just practice like you are being tested. Have a trucker buddy quiz you.
If you get the trailer remember there are redundant parts. You will test on the drivers side, but make sure you mention that you would normally inspect the passenger side the same way. I did that when i reached the end of the trailer and he accepted that.Last edited: Dec 7, 2018
CJ701 and VinnyVincent Thank this. -
When I got mine in April this year we had to pick a card and it choose what section of truck you do the pre trip on I drew B which was from the doors to back of tractor. I live in Dallas and got mine here. And we also had to do incab pre trip and air brakes...
CJ701 Thanks this. -
I got mine in 2015. No pretrip just air brakes. It was so easy it was a joke.

I notice he doesn't do the static air brake check on the wil trans, but the other video the guy does the static test checking for less than 3 PSI. Should I do that one just in case?
I also notices in both video's, they uncouple the tractor and trailer. I assume I won't need to do that on the test? -

Do you want me to email you my inspection and I can/airbrake info to you ?
VinnyVincent Thanks this. -
