    Just an update folks;
I stopped by the DPS office and did some recon today to see what their test is like. I feel like I am pretty much good to go as far as driving, but I am still doing some more practicing. I didn't see them doing paralell parking, or any cones set up to do that part. Is it possible that office doesn't test that? I only saw offset backing and straight line.

I'm still concerned about the pre-trip. In the wil-trans video, he goes over each sectiong of the truck, but he doesn't mention any of the lights or reflectors while checking that section. Instead he does all of the lights and reflectors at once. I assume that's still acceptable? I find it much easier to remember.
Same goes for the coupling. When he does part B from the drivers door back, he skips the coupling and instead goes over it next after he tells them he is done with that section of the truck. I find it much easier to remember when it's separated like that...I guess I'm paranoid that when I tell them I'm done with that section and I don't mention lights or coupling, they'll move onto the next section and score me like I forgot those parts...

    SHOJim Thanks this.

    Oh and one more thing:
The truck I'm taking is almost brand new. It has some sort of plate covering the brake drum and brake linings. You can't see any of it. I guess I just point to that area and pretend it's all visible and describe how I would check the drum and two brake shoes? The inside of the rim isn't visible either. It's all covered by the plate. It's like a dust guard or something that bolts on.

    SHOJim Thanks this.

I took my test yesterday 12/27/2018 in Georgetown Texas. Here is the deal
    1. Don't forget your comercial learners permit AKA CLP or your DOT medical card.
    2. You will be asked to randomly pick a card that have letters on them, the letter you pick will determine which portion of the truck you will have to perform the pre inspection on, or if you are unlucky, the whole tractor and trailer. So you will need to know the entire truck, you will be asked to point at or touch all critical components, and know their importance. The pre inspection is thourogh.
    3. You will then perform your in cab pre inspection.
    4. You will perform your air brake test, bleed down and safety buzzer and actuation of the emergency spring brakes.
    5. You will test your brakes on the tractor, then trailer, then service brakes.... this is the part that you apply the tractor brakes only and give the them a tug to make sure they hold, then same on trailer, then you will pull forward at 5mph and test the service/foot brakes at the same time checking to see if the brakes pull to one side or the other.
    6. You will perform your backing maneuvers, straight backing, offset backing and finally parallel parking.
    7. You will hit the road.... a few things to pay particular attention to. .. make a mental note of speed limits and bridge heights, they will ask you, can you tell me the height of the bridge we just went under? Or the speed limit on this road? .... keep both hands on the wheel, make sure you stop with plenty of room between you and cars in front of you, you should be able to see the cars rear tires, same goes for stop signs and lights, plenty of room. Make sure not to run over any curbs... You can mess up on these things, but the key is not to mess up too much because the test is based on points, the fewer points you get the better. ..... the driving test is the easiest part really, you will make several right and left turns, enter and exit the freeway one or more times, you will simulate an emergency stop and tell the tester what things you would do, ie turn on hazards and place your triangles at the appropriate places on the road......
I think that covers it, best of luck.

    Bach111 and VinnyVincent Thank this.

What side parallel did they make you do? I was trying to find that out when I stopped by the DPS, but didn't see anyone doing the parallel.

    Congrats BTW!

My truck is new and it has disc brakes which are well covered. I can hardly see anything but the airlines going to the brakes. If you know what the brake chamber looks like, are they sideways from what you see in most online Pre-Trip videos? If the chambers are sideways, you have disc brakes.

I took some photo's. Looks like they might be discs. I'm just wondering how I would tell the instructor I would check them? It doesn't realistically seem possible, but it's not like everything on the test is realistic anyways lol
