Fwiw, I have a good friend from church who started with them and has been there around 6 months. He loves it, he lives here in charlotte area and doesn't much leave the 4-5 state area.

I'm starting Truck Drivers Institute this coming Monday. I'm ex Military. Flawless driving record and ZERO police record. I'm 34yrs old. I do have a family and was leaning towards MCelroy Trucking. Everything I've read seems to be in a positive aspect regarding McElroy. Any tips for a person who is about to attend T.D.I. and choose companies? I'd like to be home most weekends. I plan on doing it for a year for that experience, then get a local driving job home nightly. Suggestions? Thanks!

I'm finished with orientation as of today. I didn't consider any other truck companies bc McElroy had exactly what I wanted. So with that let me just confirm that McElroy is as advertised. Professional outfit with a great training program. All the drivers I've talked to here at the terminal confirm that home time is a priority. ...I've enjoyed my experience so far and am looking forward to progressing in the company. ...feel free to ask anything you want about the process. ..I'll be happy to answer from my experience and prospective

Thanks for the info B_easy! Yeah i start T.D.I. this Monday. I read through the CDL Manual and it's all pretty interesting common sense stuff. I didn't know much about air breaks and I never learned how to drive a manual. I hope this doesn't present a problem during class. Where all does McElroy send you out for deliveries? I live in Georgia and am hoping I won't have too many runs to downtown Atlanta. I hate driving in downtown Atlanta but it's not a deal breaker. I'm mainly doing this for the money and to be on the open road but mainly the money. I'm ex Air Force and I haven't been able to make any more than 300$ a week in a very long time. So how does orientation work? Do they pay for me to get to Cuba Alabama and pay for me to stay during the orientation? Also how long is On The Road training? How much is pay during the orientation days and the driving training? Sorry for all the questions. I just want to make 100% sure this is what I am going to do for 1 year to get that experience and then apply to a local job so i can be home nightly. Thanks so much =)

First let me say the majority of your questions are on the website. ..only say this bc I may miss a question. ...they will get you to Cuba by bus or pay for your mileage (20cents) mile. You stay at the best western in meridian and they pay for breakfast. ...you have the option of riding their van to and from cuba...you will work typically within 500 miles which would include Atlanta but im not sure if any load would go within Atlanta...orientation and rhe following six weeks if training are paid at 500 a week...weeks 3-6 are with a driver trainer...hope this helps...
