Back in 2008 I got a ticket when I snagged a low-hanging cable line with my trailer in Rootstown, OH. I did my civic duty and called the OHP and was issued a ticket for "Failure to Maintain Clearence" (as in vertical). When the ticket transfered to MI it turned into "Following Too Closely" (as in horizontal) which is a huge no-no for newer drivers.
Anyone ever had something like this happen to them?

If the cable line was across a public road there is no way you should have been issued a ticket. Its the utilites responsibilty to maintain a clear height above 13-6, residential or not. You should have fought it.

I wrote a letter to fight the ticket (can't afford to drive 5 or 6 hours to fight it in court) but was still denied.

I was in the far left lane of a three lane road avoiding an accident in the right hand lane in MI. I was given a ticket and despite fighting it was found guilty. There is no such law in OR and it showed up on my OR drivers licence as "failing to yeild right of way", a minor felony issued only after an at fault accident. After talking to OR DMV it was changed to "failure to obey traffic sign", a misdomeaner, on my record.

Believe it or not all phone and cable lines are supposed to be 18' above the ground or when I worked as a lineman it was!
But how can a ticket for taking a line down become a freaking following to closely charge? If I were you I would call a lawyer in that town and hire him if you can't make it to court and let him handle it! DO NOT JUST PAT A FINE! specially when some MORON changed it to a freaking moving violation! -
How did it transfer to another state?

i got a warning for speed in arizona that california translated into an actual ticket, did a few nights of traffic schoool and of course paid threw the teeth and everyone was happy...

First hire a lawyer, you can not afford not to anymore. Second yes I pulled down several limes in Santa Paula comong down from Ojai. I did not stop my trailer is legal and it is there problem to keep to lowest line over a street over 18'. I did call it in but I did not tell them I was the one who pulled them down, I just told them they were down. The next time I went up to the ranch for avicados the lines were not low over the street.
