My 97 379 has 4 batteries in the box but they are wired as 2 banks 0f 2.

Why go to the expense? Use what you have and add 2 more jumpers 1 on + to + and one on - to - .

I run 2 sets of cables to the starter. 1 set to the 1st battery then the 1st short jumpered to the 2nd. The 2nd set to the 3rd battery that's jumpered to the 4th.

    lester and pushbroom Thank this.

2 sets of cable to starter and chassis ground. It’s the way Peterbilt did it then. Someone told me the reason was stronger cranking but I don’t know for certain.

Pete have 2 setups. 2 cables and 4 cables. The 2 cable setup uses 4/0 cable and all the batteries jumpered together.
The 4 cable runs 4 cables at 2/0 each. The first two batteries are joined together and the rear are joined together. They do not join all 4 batteries as the factory cable ends are too thick to stack on one post.
I prefer 2 cable due to a cleaner battery box.

Also positive and negative cables both go to the starter. Grounds go from starter to frame, starter to engine, and starter to cab.

Do you know Petes reasoning for the different set-ups?
