I finished orientation and load securement two weeks ago in Gary. I have been sitting here since then waiting to hear from a trainer anyone know how long I may be waiting here or how long it usually takes to get with a flatbed mentor? I tried calling Monday to figure out how long it was going to take and the only thing I could get out of them was it was going to take a little longer, I have been around flatbed since I was a kid and I am really not interested in pulling a van at all, but I need to start driving and making some money. If anyone can tell me how long it took them or knows anything it would be very helpf in my decision making.

How was your orientation? I'm thinking about joining Swift and was wondering what they put you thru.

Sorry to hear that, I read somewhere they are very short on flatbed mentors. I hope they are paying you, if not I'd be on someone about atleast working in the yard moving trailers around or something.

Changes all the time I'm sure but I had to wait a month, they're really hurting for flatbed mentors. I'm out of the phoenix terminal though and this was a few months back.

Orientation is all about safety videos, D.O.T Physical, drug test, and alot of paper work. All in all its pretty informative, they just want to make sure you know enough to get started without getting yourself or them in trouble and make sure your not going to get anyone hurt.

They mentioned that when I left Gary, a month would not be to bad that would only be two more weeks I just dont want to still be sitting here more than 2-3 more weeks I waited until tax time so I would have a little money sitting around during the wait but I dont want to run the bank dry because I am sure the first few months is going to be rough. Thanks I just wanted to get an idea.

Your in indiana? I'd hop a bus home and wait for a call. I would not have sat there for 2 weeks. either put me to work doing something or call me when your ready.

oh.................. ok. lol, I thought you were sitting there at the terminal doing nothing. Hang in there then, you went through everything and passed they should call you.

Funny, they told me I'd have to go out with a van driver for 6 weeks then a flatbed mentor for 6 weeks. That aint gonna happen.

did they make you go out with a van mentor?
