Be careful of CTL/CCC. I was scheduled for orientation and previously asked to do OTR tanker, as many days out as possible (as a fresh graduate) and they approved it.
I got assigned out of orientation to JAX on a cement bulk carrier. The trainer said I would be loading/unloading 10 hours out of 14 and maybe driving short trips 4 hours a day (They don't pay for loading and unloading). On top of that we lost 4 drivers out of 11 due to the "Strength and agility" Test we didn't know about on Monday, DAY 1. Two were in their late 20's, early 30's; 2 were late 40's early 50's (I'm 63 but don't smoke).
One of the older drivers was upset as he had enough money for one week in his pocket, got a return bus ticket back and no job.
The plus side is it seems to be a good company once you're in, but that's second-hand, as I called them to take my name off the new hire list and never drove for them.

Lol yea it is nice having a truck that isn't cut back. My rig knows when its coming home and the hunny knows when I'm coming home too. When I say I'm going home I mean it and nothing keeps me from getting home. Always been a family person always will be. Yea the road is my drug, and its something I've got to have after a while. I'll never hang it up complety, once the diesel is in your veins it never leaves, but I'll always make it home when I'm needed there.

I try not to bring mine if I'm hooked to a pot, she likes to smell the roses. I do run with a blue heeler, that is comedy right there. Course she thinks watching my fat rear run and climb is comedy. I'm sure she would go more but we have a teenage daughter at home plus she has a J O B to support my trucking habit lol. She said that there isn't much qaulity time cause I don't talk much when I drive.

I might would miss that Large car roll at the end of the week if she was with me, nah I would still turn it loose. You are right once you get a whiff of diesel smoke its all over. But 4 or 5 days tops is all I can take. I would never made it true OTR. I will say its nice to have some one support your choice not care so much what you do but that you like what you do. When them kids was little They would be standin on the porch jumping up and down Daddies home! I still see that every time the ol "wore out" Pete comes up the drive. And that look in her eye when she walks out on the porch usually drying her hands on a towel. Those are the 2 of the 3 things I wouldn't change for nothin.

Been with my wife for 28 years now. Love the hell out of her. But I never wanted her on the truck.

Me.....my XM Radio.....and that's it. It's not a freaking vacation or country tour; it is my JOB....and you don't take your spouse to any other job.

P.S.= I wouldn't wanna go sit with her at her job either.....and she wouldn't want me there.

Yep. I constantly tell her how amazing she is.

We grew up in the same home town, were friends but never dated. We went our separate ways; she settled and got married young, I settled and got married. 20 years later we were divorced and a mutual friend from high school reintroduced us.

If I had known what it was like to be with her, I never would have settled in the first place.

She grew up the son her father never had, working on transmissions - whether they were big trucks or race cars - until the wee hours. If she wanted to go do something with her friends, the big truck had to be washed, and maybe even the aluminum polished. She is the most loving, caring, passionate woman, yet she's up on top of a truck motor turning wrenches with the best of them.

I'm not lucky to have her....I'm extremely BLESSED. I don't need any Christmas presents...I have her.

I some times wish she could quit and come with me, but with one still at home its hard. Before I grew up so to speak she has driven several hundred miles just to do laundry while I slept. She worries a lot that is some of the reason I don't ask her to come when I'm draggin the pot. Thats how bringin the dog got started, my daughter didn't want me alone out on the road. I will say with out my wife I wouldn't be who I am or in the place I am. I don't have much, but don't need any thing. If I was truly OTR it would be different I'm sure. Nothing like puttin this ol rag up in that Peterbilt stroll on thursday or friday. Some day soon I will slow down and smell the roses with her she has earned that. Of all that I could give her that would mean the most to her.
