I've seen the same thing at AutoZone but don't know if it's for a big truck
-
Had mine for 4 years or so no problems at all. Bought it specifically for the instant mpg and average mpg readout. And it's also nice to be able to double check the accuracy of the electronic gauges in the dash.
Was it worth the money? It's basically the exact same thing sold at camper world. The 30 bucks KR surcharge was worth it to me to not have to spend half a day driving to and from camper world.blairandgretchen and bzinger Thank this. -
Thanks ! So the unit camper world sells is the same thing and plugs into the diagnostic port on my truck ?
-
They make 3 different kinds that I'm aware of. Basically all of them are the same except for the ecm data port plug. Cars and pick ups use a different plug. But the big diesel pusher rvs use the same 2 plugs that class 8 trucks use. I forget the actual part numbers but it's something like j19xx and j17xx. 1 had 5 pins and the other 7 pins. I think.

Well thank you ! Just checked and there's a camping world in Omaha so il go check em out ..I can live without Mr Rutherfords signature on it lol

See my last post. Was typing as you posted this. Basically there are 2 different plugs that all trucks use. The big rvs also use them. You just figure out which one you have.
A note: the KR version has a few extra options. Things like cost per mile and profit per mile you can program in if you feel like it. Depending on what you want yours for, the KR edition could be better and you can only get it from him.
Whichever one you get, be prepared to fine tune it to your truck. Basically all it does is read and display info the ecm tells it. Unfortunately the ecm is not very accurate when it comes to fuel consumption. It took me about 10 or so fill ups before I got it tuned in. Once you get it and read the instructions on how to calibrate it, you will understand what I'm talking about. With some trial and error over a month or so I got mine to be within 1/10th mpg accuracy.blairandgretchen Thanks this. -
Oh ok I thought you typed dang quik lol...with that said I think I'll go with the kr unit .

Yes, Yes and Yes.

Hate to admit this but I think my right foot is part of why I'm not to happy with my mpg and figure some data might discipline my foot a little lol..not that I'm ever gona get great mpg .
1johnb Thanks this.
