anyone in the patch used rdi product pumps?

    I work up in wabacsa, ab and my trucks use t&e but I have been looking into these rdi pumps. They take a roper and make it stronger and longer lasting but more importantly they claim you don't grease or use a oiler, they are self lubricating without the drip the roper pumps have.... employees tend to not grease or forget the oiler, this would be good but I haven't talked to anyone using them to see if they do work good and if what rdi claims is true.

    First I've heard of them but am also interested in hearing more. Was going to be buying a new T&E shortly but this sounds promising, assuming the claims are true.

    I believe these pumps have been around for a few years now, and haven't really 'taken' off like a T&E have. I believe the design/engineering behind these were done by an owner operator in the Macklin/LLoydminster oilfield, I believe he owned 7 or 10 trucks, and back before T&E Days, and oilers and sealed bearings there was Roper and bushings... anyone thats been in the racket long enough probably has enough used bushings, wear plates, and gears laying behind their shops to fill a few dumpsters.
    Anyways, this guys dad seen the problem with rebuilding literally monthly, and you could imagine the maintenence on 7-10 trucks all hauling infield/water/slop oil, so he started tweaking Ropers.

    Another option is A Plus Machining from Lloydminster, they have designed their own pump called "The Green #######" and it looks like a hell of a pump! But about a 1000.00 more than a T&E, tons of nice features, and I 've heard stories of moving water and oil at crazy rates/minute. However... I only know of them to distribute, and if your not in the Lloyd area, and it piles up/starts leaking or whatever might cause it issues, your pretty much screwed.

    Back before T&E was nothing more than a shop outside of Consort Ab, it wasn't much different, I remember TONS of broken shafts, seal issues, bearings piling up, it was horrid, every time something happened, unhook and head to Consort for the afternoon, its only really been in the last 5-8 years that their distributorship and service has expanded and they've got the issues handled.

    The last one I had was a bear, on clean oil it would pump 2+m/min but tons of seal issues, the oiler I had failed at least 3 times a year, it was just a very finicky pump, I reshimmed literally every 3-6 months and when I finally pulled it off, it looked like brand new inside, after 6 years, but I spent thousands, and I mean thousands a year in maintenence... swore I'd never put another one on anything I owned again.

    I went back to Roper for the past 3.5 years, and while I might have saved money both in the initial rigup and rebuilds, it was a huge pain in the ### with the packing, the days of leaving 3-4 drips on the ground and drive away have ended, and repacking at 20 below etc, just literally to labour intensive, nothing like working 14 hours then lay in the snow bank or in the mud to repack a pump thats dripping with crude.

    So back to T&E again, I opted out of the oilers and went with the grease lines, primarily for the reason that I had such huge troubles with my past oiler, I couldn't imagine putting up with that again. So far, so good.. the pumps don't haul alot, usually around 70-90m3 a day total, all clean oil. So I hope the entire rig up lasts the life of the truck.

    Sealed bearing Bowie pumps are pretty good, no drips and little maintenance, they pump like mad.

    I assume you are referring to the Bowie 600 series. I've looked at them a bit, looks like Bowies answer to the T&E. I would be curious to hear how they compare in the field.

    A-plus Machining in Lloyd has what are called "Centrifuge" pumps. They look just like an irrigation pump. I looked at those when I was there a couple months ago. I dont know how they would pump oil unless it was really light, and with the body design, I think they would only pump like a ***** in one direction...I dunno?? A guy at our shop just got one of those RDI pumps with the 45 degree angled body. I dont think he has put it on yet, but it is to replace a T&E. I have a 4" T&E on mine and have been haulin blowback/prod. water for the last 2 months since I put it on and I am still at 1.7 m3/min...

    Theres also another pump I seen recently, the gears inside are conical shaped, Patch Machining in Coleville Saskatchewan is a distributor for them, I have heard some crazy #s for moving oil/water with them, I believe it was a T&E design and T&E sold the patent to this company. They look very similar to a T&E, but if you look inside, the gears V shaped almost.
    I know price wise, it wasn't cheap at all, and I have been lessoned to many times to count on new technology or new ideas, been there, done that, and got the postcard.. LOL, nothing infuriates me more than being a guinea pig, and having it blow up on a Saturday of a long weekend, and all the "On Call" guys can't be found.. LOL

    Im picking up my PB 389 on Monday, but because I'm getting the pump included in the financing, I thought I would do some investigating. My previous pump was a 4" T&E installed by GForce Diesel in Lloyd.
    I've been really happy with the product, and have had it running for two years, 3 months.
    So I copied and pasted an email that the guys over at Commercial Truck in Calgary sent me. But - just to let you know, I stayed with the T&E pump.
    Expensive, but zilch for downtime.

    "Commercial Truck is a dealer for the VGP pump made in Calgary. This pump is similar to the T+ E or Roper bearing pumps in that it has bearings. The big difference between the T=E or Roper vs the VGP pump is that the gears in the VGP are of a herringbone style, not a helical cut style. The benefit to this design is that the gears provide a better exit flow due to less turbulence of the product. This is especially evident in the less viscous liquids you may pump. Less turbulence = quicker pumping. Look at the theoretical flow chart and compare to the other designs.
    The design also eliminates end wear-plates because the nature of the design pulls product away from the end plates which result in less, to no wear. The capability of the pump to provide good prime is another benefit because of the tight tolerances of the design. Another important benefit is how easy it is to work on the pump while it is still on the truck. Other designs require that the pump be taken completely off of the truck in order to swap out gears for example.
    Some customers have complained that the pump is too quiet, they don't think it's running. Coupled with our hydraulic cooler package which is also very quiet compared to other coolers and its ability to cool more efficiently than any other cooler, the package we offer is superior while still being competitive.
    Your price for a VGP-7250 is $ 5869.00 plus tax. We have stock. It is too difficult to quote on the complete package sight-unseen as there is too much to vary between builds and it comes down to personal preference. Things like mounting underneath or behind the cab in a cabinet can change the price dramatically.."
