That's what a mechanic told me and why he said it was a bad idea. Maybe it is just a bad idea and all that is needed is on the return. I didn't realize how important unrestricted fuel flow was until reading a few threads around here over the past few months. Deleting the hand primer pump, getting rid of 90* turns in fuel line, upping fuel pressure.. I have some of those 90* bends in the fuel lines going to my fuel filters... There's so many little things a person can do to improve on what they've got.

My cat filter (fuel/water separator) filters down to such small microns that in the really cold months will plug up. And I have tried any and all brands of filters that cross to my cat filter with no luck. It does not matter if I have enough anti gel to (any brand) treat 1000 gallons, or fuel is 100% #1 I still have the same problem. There is no fuel cooler on my truck. I have to run what my local shop calls a rock strainer, just a small filter that does not filter down near as far as the cat filter. So for me to run a fuel cooler I would have no choice but to bypass it in the winter months.

Mine has several of those 90* bends also, but when I had my fuel pressure checked it was right at the top of the range with no air in the system, so I don't really think it pays to change everything when your running the most psi possible on an engine without worring of damage.

Let me ask my question again....
Is there a dedicated fuel cooler for a class 8 truck for sale on the market that just bolts on with fuel line fittings already on it?
I want to install one next month on my return line as soon as I take off this useless Pro Fuel Catalyst Injection System. -
I believe there is, but I can't give you a specific part number or VIN to look up. I was thinking about buying a used Legacy Pete that had a Cat and had one installed from the factory, at least I was told it was factory installed. Try calling KC Pete as they're the ones that sold it new and had it for resale.
Dice1 Thanks this. -
I thought that was the magical thing though....

When I get by my dealer, who is doing this on day cab on a regular basis, I will see what they are using. Or you can give them a call. Harrison Truck Center, Elk Run Heights, IA 800-582-5789. I looked it over and it looks very well made. Not sure if they are making the completed unit there, or it is manufactured elsewhere and they put on fittings, etc. I told them I wanted it on my truck, and they are supposed to give me a call with it comes in. I don't think they stock. They just order as needed.Dice1 Thanks this.

I drove a 2007 Pete 386 day cab that had one from the factory installed just below the air conditioning condensor. The fitting were part of the cooler. You would just need some line to extend the return lines. There is a flow restriction max number on the supply and return. I don't know what it is off of the top of my head.

I took a few minutes and researched "fuel coolers" and came up with some different versions from Hayden Industrial and got this response from them:
We would need some information to be able to size the right fuel cooler
for the vehicle.
For example we would need to know:
Max Inlet Fuel Temp: (Typical 180-220°F)
Required Outlet Temp: (Typical 140-160°F)
Max Inlet Ambient Air Temp:
Flow rate: (use Spill rate, not pump rate)
Will this be mounted in front of radiator?: Yes/No
If no (remote mounted), will you need a 12 or 24 volt motor for the fan?
Also for reference the engine horsepower.
I replied back and admitted my ignorance and inability to answer the questions, but did mention that most uses would be on Cats, Cummins, and DD's up to 15 liters with 12 volt systems.
Cowpie, where are you in looking at these from your dealer source? Anyone else's thoughts?Dice1 Thanks this.
