Instead of making a new thread, will continue this one.
Here is the roof of a brand new Western Star as of @1hr ago.....
View attachment 53365
Rooftop shroud has been painted blue, but it's too light a metallic blue, so the missus has run to town for a darker shade. AC unit is up top though.
Running the wiring inside the truck to the unit, then will install the 20amp breaker and box under the bunk and install the plug on the generator end of the wiring. I already had the wiring running into the truck when I made the generator brackets etc, so it wasn't too bad a deal overall.
The only hard part was drilling that first hole in the roof!
One thing I noticed though, the Dometic 13,500BTU Penguin comes with 2 hard start capacitors, where the Dometic Commercial of the same rating only came with 1!
Will take some pics of the finished job if anyone wants them.
Martin
anyone interested in cheap a/c

I knew you'd do it at some point. I wouldn't worry about paint no-one will ever see it. Definitely post pics.
Edited.. just realized you meant paint for ac unit.. if you can't get a decent match just paint it white or black is what I'd do.

She is running to town now, so it will be a darker blue in a couple of hours!

With all these pointers he's giving we need to get Martin his own tv/ radio/ internet show.
How to installs and repairs for truckers.
Heck he might be the next big thing since ice road truckers. Haha
Please don't shoot me Martin. Remember you can't flee to England now and use the old passport..RedForeman and Clasix1055 Thank this. -
Hahahahaha Carl!
Fear not mate, no guns involved....honest!
I got a sheet of 1/8" thick aluminum to go between the top of the roof, and the top part of the ac unit. Got it held down with literally TWO tubes of clear 100% silicone. Then the top unit goes on top of it, which clamps to the inside air distribution box, which has a piece of 3/4" birch faced plywood between it and the head liner. Aids in the bolts not crushing the head liner when tightening them.
Wiring is ran, with a 20 amp breaker in a box under the bunk.
Letting some paint dry on the plywood, as gray primer is the exact same color as the cabinets! So primer it is then.
Will update later today, with foto's.
Wife sneaked a picture apparently...me getting the rooftop unit in the right spot, on top of the aluminum plate, which is on top of the roof, which is.......
RedForeman, cetanediesel and killroy Thank this. -
unless i'm mistaken on the calendar year. isn't winter coming up????
cuz that's a lot of work for naturally cold air.
can't wait to see pics of the finished installation. -
I wish it was gonna get colder soon!
It's done, so it's ready for any heat!
Currently running on the generator, waiting for it to cool down the truck enough to cycle the compressor with the thermostat.
Some pics:
