that does look much nicer than my Coleman Roughneck. Another thing I dislike about the Roughneck is it simply moves too much air and the fan is a bit noisy. Believe me, doesn't bother me when it's 110 out, I'm glad to have cold air !
I'm considering trying some type of rheostat on the fan so I can turn it down a bit. How does the fan and noise on your sporty blue one compare to the Coleman ? -
Great looking install! Thanks for sharing the progress report and photos.

This one seems to give the EU3000is an easier time when it cycles too for some reason.
Many thanks for the compliments guys.

On the one you put in your red truck you had to put something in the wiring to make it start softer for the Honda, did you have to do the same thing with this one?
-
No Jason,
Funny enough, this NON commercial model, already had 2 hard start capacitors installed from the factory! The Commercial one only had one capacitor for both the compressor and fan.
I left it cycling on and off with the generator running it, and the Honda never missed a beat. I normally put it on the adapter plug and a house extension lead when home, but left it on the generator intentionally to see if was going to drag it down or not.

I had a Roughneck with the Honda EU3000 on my Pete. I found it to be a very reliable and inexpensive alternative to an APU. But it was a PITA adding gas to the generator every day. I read where it was said that you are lazy if you don't want to put gas in daily. There are times when it is extremely inconvenient, like in the rain or in the dark. And be sure to NEVER fill the tank when the generator is hot or a fire drill may take place! I just bought a Pete 386 used with the 70inch sleeper and want to do another "redneck APU". That Domitec looks like the way to go! I'm just not convinced that the gas generators are the answer. And those that run those cheapies should have to sleep next to it by their head! An inexpensive diesel generator that is remote start and not loud that could be directly connected to the fuel system would be ideal. I've searched high and low for a compact sized 3000 to 4000 watt unit that's under 70DB but can't find one fr less than $5,000. Anyone have an option that they could share?

I run 3 small 2 gallon gas cans, and can run a/c for @60hrs straight on the gas cans and the generator gas tank. Not really a bad deal in my book.
I normally drop my trailer and fill everything up at once, from the RV island at a Flying J etc. Mind, I am always 14' wide when loaded, so dropping my trailer is a regular occurrence to me...
There is an extended run tank option now for the 3000's. Involves modifying the valve cover to fit a vacuum pump though.
Overall, well worth the money, regardless of the minor inconvenience of getting gas. I have under $3k in my whole setup, that weighs less than any APU, loses me no room under the bunk, and is more reliable than any APU I have heard of. This is my second setup like this one, with the only difference being the rooftop unit.
MartinBoardhauler and Elroythekid Thank this. -
I have a condo so won't be doing this on my current truck. But my next one will be a Midroof pinnacle rawhide and I will be doing this exact set up. You my friend are a genius!

I made an adapter lead, to go from the RV socket to a regular house socket for my last setup, and kept it when I traded the truck. Used it yesterday all day while it was in the 90's all day. Truck kept wonderfully cool inside, with the curtains open allowing more light into the truck, thus more heat too.
Will be leaving tomorrow to load a Lexion 780TT on Tuesday, and it's meant to be 100 degrees on Tuesday in Omaha, so it will get put to the test!
MartinElroythekid and cetanediesel Thank this.
