Anyone know if Cat or Cummins has favored injector cleaners?

We need to clean injectors in a C15 and two N14's.

We put some Lucas thru the C15 when it started stalling out, ie losing power, smoking.......just like when a turbo fails.........and all is back to normal now.

(Had the turbos pulled and checked.......nothing wrong.......next was going to be injectors, but mechanic said we should run some cleaner thru the injectors first---------we did, and that handled the problem.)

So.........we are going to do it with the other motors also.

Just wondering if Cummins or Cat have preferences......if not, then probably will use Lucas.

We were told to NOT use the auto tranny fluid thru the Acert C15...........that it might be ok for the N14's, but not the small Acert injectors---------so, I think we will use in the N14's what we end up using in the C15.

    Your comments will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

I wouldn't run modern auto trans fluid in any diesel engine, those fluids have become very specialized nowadays, containing among other things, friction modifiers that are not combustible. Also, oil manufacturers are not required to remove soot from AT fluid, as it was never intended to be put in an engine.

Shaffers (spelled wrong, but pronounced like you see it) is what I generally use, but in all honesty, I cannot say if there is any benefit other than lubrication.

Never used it, have have heard good things about Marvel Mystery Oil cleaning things up really good.

Also, check out Hydrotex. They have great products. Not cheap, but they work.

Seems like Stanadyne is the only product that is actually approved by any OEM.

    Nooooooooo...not for injectors!

That stuff is essentially automatic transmission fluid.

Here is a table with some test results for fuel additives. I found this on The Diesel Garage and it was posted by a member named Tank. This really made me think about the normal additives...Lucas, Power Service, and Howe's.

I would run the Schaeffers. Their winter treat is the best I have found so far and my ACERT is pretty picky about fuel and additive.

I think you need to ask your mechanic why you have low power! Not dumping in a mechanic in a can approach! Did you have an algae problem? Most likely its low fuel pressure or air you think?

    13-

Was the pressure checked under load, or no load? Pressure is one thing, flow is another.

I'd replace the fuel bypass valve (if you haven't yet) first, and go from there. Just a $25 part that made a HUGE difference on my truck.

Used to buy Hydrotex products years ago (late 1970s-1980), had good results. Sold my trucks due to divorce, so I quit using Hydrotex. Couple of years ago, someone mentioned they thought Hydrotex had gone under. Guess they were wrong. I did like their fuel treatment, but best I remember, I had to buy a 35 gallon drum for them to deliver. Gonna google them.

Read that the Stanadyne was rated pretty high, just haven't seen any around to try it.

Just my $.02 but I don't think the Marvel oil is a very good injector treatment, excellent lubricant for the ulsd, but I prefer 2 stroke oil for that.(cheaper)

That table sure doesn't rate Lucas very high, kind of a surprise for as popular as it is.
