On my truck it just has 2 taillights with no reverse light. Does anyone know if the tractor is required to have a reverse light?

I think the exception would be a very, very old truck that didn’t come with a reverse light from factory.

    And bobtail.

DOT still requires a reverse light on the tractor anyway. Your shop can weld one and run wires to a switch to operate it.

Mine doesn’t have lights that come on while in reverse. I do have two lights mounted on the frame that I can manually turn on with a switch if I so choose. No one has ever given me any trouble for it.

Yeah there is, 1968. Anything after that, has to have one.

Mine has never had a backup light but it does have two spotlights on the back of the cab. Those count for backup lights. If the officer asks you to put it in reverse turn those lights on and you have "backup lights". If you have work lights on the back of your cab as long as the lenses are clear you have backup lights.

You are right, the spots can be considered back up lights, the regs doesn't specify where the lights are to be placed.
