    These eight are the most common CDL restrictions that you will come across in every state.

    Restrictions in every state.

    Apparently M is used for both endorsements and restrictions.

    Another link says Oddball restrictions. For California. You'll have to scroll down the list. You'll notice X is also on the oddball list.

    K and X are medical variances. According to the bottom link.

    Here in Maine. The K rerstriction just means the driver hasnt bothered to renew their medical card.

    k is not a medical variance. Your source needs a new editor. All states must use the endorsement and restriction codes from the FMCSRs. They can add to them but they cannot change what’s in the regs. 383.153

    (10) The restriction(s) placed on the driver from operating certain equipment or vehicles, if any, indicated as follows:

    (i) L for No Air brake equipped CMV;

    (ii) Z for No Full air brake equipped CMV;

    (iii) E for No Manual transmission equipped CMV;

    (iv) O for No Tractor-trailer CMV;

    (v) M for No Class A passenger vehicle;

    (vi) N for No Class A and B passenger vehicle;

    (vii) K for Intrastate only;

    (viii) V for medical variance; and

    Restricted to u der 24,000 lbs vehicle/freight?

    The other 49 states should issue move-ins from CA a restriction - No voting for 10 years without adult supervision.

    Chemical Breath Analysis may mean ignition interlock required so he has to pass a built-in blood alcohol device to start the vehicle.

    You missed my first source. Cuz you posted the same source.

    And apparently, not everyone agrees with either source.

    The others say medical.

    So who's right and who's wrong?

    It was an interesting and somewhat informative read. Time to move on. I think I can live without knowing the right answer.

    I didn’t miss the first source, it was correct on the K. The second one not so much. Who is right? FMCSR 383.153 is right. Any number ie: 24,40, 42 etc is a state thing.

    K is for no medical card required and intrastate only. I have it after I retired, just to keep my CDL.

    tscottme and snowwy Thank this.
