I think that's called Watonga? I forget. It's on 270 in OK. I remember posting the picture. I called it: Lepton and My favorite stop sign. :)
Can't say the number of times. I would sit there with the road blocked. Blade Runners coming through. I'd be enthralled, watching them intently. I swear. The tip of that blade came less than a foot from that pole. With one of the Pilots standing at the base of the pole watching. Radio in hand. I loved doing that run through there. Got to where I would hope I'd run into some Blade Runners. Still have very fond memories of 270.

I ran that quite a bit, either headed to oil rigs in the area or toward the Texas Panhandle, or working my way toward Denver by way of Dodge City. There's a HUGE plant with a couple square miles of blades, generators, columns, and cones just east of Garden City, KS.

I have hauled rebar to wind farms, used for the foundations. I've also been involved with crane moves, which takes about a dozen trucks for those big guys that hoist the windmill components into place.

Until you get up to the base of a modern windmill it's hard to appreciate just how big they are. It amazes me some of the STEEP dirt roads in Texas or New Mexico with windmills on top of a ridge. Think about pulling up that hill with a blade, or a column, or a generator. I don't think a gutless mega truck could make it at 80K. Those boys have some serious horsepower and they know how to use it.

This is how they run blades up steep, switchbacked mountains in China...

Personally I dislike windmill farms they are messing up the beautiful scenery out west.. nothing worse then seeing a farm messing up your view of beautiful snow capped mountains

    They kill birds too.

The best alternative is fusion which will happen at some point. It's super clean, converting hydrogen into helium which releases energy in the process, if I remember right. We just need to figure out how to make safe, stable environments for fusion to be possible (at 10 million+ degrees). You are essentially creating a mini-sized, artificial Sun.

To me fusion cannot come fast enough. Birds like crows have a brain comparable to a 7-year-old person in some ways. Birds are an intelligent animal more so than I think most people realize.

There are windmills that run fast. Seen them in passes in Ca. They'll kill birds. Too fast.
But the big ones out in the midwest. Those things turn slow. I seriously don't think any of them are killing any birds. One time I was in a very high wind with gusts. Those machines in the midwest were shut down. They're made to run on lower speed winds. Won't run on high winds.

They kill a lot of birds.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not against them. I put humans first their survival and well-being. We have better ideas on the horizon I'm sure we will stick to them and find a way to make them work for us.
