I used to be a half owner of a 1975 Piper Cherokee Six, sold out my half, and bought a 1998 Mooney Encore last year. It uses 10.5 gallons an hour at mid power cruise, compared to the 16 gallons the piper burned, and is 30 knots faster. Many would fly it at a higher cruise power most likely, but then burn around 12 gallons and gain 4 knots is all.

Yes they are. My Dad had an ag outfit that used one for quite a few years. He put a 100 horse from a wrecked Cessna 150 on it and it flew pretty good.
He built a small spreader for it, put a hopper where the front seat used to be, and used it for seeding clover. It also got used for spot treating Furadan or bluestone on rice fields.
I wish we still had it. My brother was hand propping a 450 Stearman and forgot where his throttle was. When it started it jumped the chocks and went across the tie down area and ate it's way right through that Cub starting at the tail.

Usually I have my wife on the brake's, throttle and mag switch but if I am alone I always chalk it. I have seen too many accidents.
Someone told me that a pilot had the throttle wide open to clear it because it was flooded and forgot to put the throttle back to idle , hit the mag switch, flipped the prop and it fired up and took off flying until it ran out of gas and crashed.
