We were supposed to have somebody in the ####pit or the tail tied down and chocks but that wasn't always possible. Usually once we got the 450s started in the morning they'd run all day without being shut off.
We never had one fly away with nobody in it but we had three that I remember that either hit other airplanes or the hangar wall. Nobody ever got hurt except for one guy that chased the plane and tried to get back into the ####pit. He tripped and instead of staying down he jumped up and the left elevator hit him in the back and knocked him down again.
We had a lot of spare engines and airframes in those days so building up another plane wasn't too much of a hassle.

That's for sure. Dad and his brothers went down to Arizona after the war and bought a bunch of Stearmans and BT-13s, took them apart and trucked them back home. If I remember right he said the average price was somewhere around three hundred dollars for the Stearmans and five hundred for the -13s. O time 450s, not OSMOH but straight brand new engines were cheap too. Nobody figured anybody would ever want them.
He also bought some N-3Ns but he said they were too expensive and not as easy to find.
LOL...somebody asked Dad once what made the Stearman so popular. He said "because they were cheap, they were easy to work on, and there were plenty of them".

Probably so. Flying it wouldn't be much different, just bigger, noisier, and heavier on the stick. If it has the stock wings it will want to tuck in a power-on stall but with that big rudder spin recovery is quick and easy.
Landing it will be a little different though. They can be ground-looped pretty easy, especially landing in a cross wind or with a quartering tailwind. Don't ask me how I know this.

Somebody spent a lot of time and effort to wrap that. How long has it been like that?

Any place that isn’t on a pipeline that takes a decent amount of gallons is a poverty rate.

Back in the day we make big bucks especially on dept of defense loads think the 1st gulf war...... these days the only good money is delivering to a navy boat.....
