It depends on where were at. There are a few stops where even I don't like to get out after dark.

Im with Shaffer, after training my wife was with me. I got my truck in GA and had to run a few loads to get home but when I did I picked her up. She is with me because it was the only way she would let me do this. Like another poster said my wife is my best friend and we have rarely been apart in the five years we been married. It can be hard at times. I'll be in a difficult situation backing dealing with receiver or dispatch and in middle of it I get asked what are you doing? Then I have to explain. I wouldn't do otr if she wasn't with me. She reads Ts book and has mind like steal trap. She knows what ts's are where and weather we liked them or not. She helps be my eyes in backing, and she is a great help with atlas if lost etc. She helps me find my way out of customers because I never remember the way lol. So, if you are thinking about doing it make sure she knows what's involved and she will get stared at by guys alot. My wife gets looks all the time especially if I'm a few feet behind her and they think she is alone. Good luck.

This thread brings back some memories... Years ago, more than a decade, when I ran OTR, my wife, now EX thankfully, always complained that when I came off the road all I wanted to do was sleep or just lounge around. How can that be, all you do is sit on your arse all week she asked? After a few months of that I convinced her to take a week vacation, send our kids to grandma's for the week+ we'd be gone and come out with me.... Well, she did.... She NEVER looked at my job the same again nor complained about me not feeling like running around like a chicken with it's head cut off on the weekends. I can't say I enjoyed it much, but there is a reason she's my EX:biggrin_25519:

Fast forward to now, I have a wife that I'd love to get in a truck with and run OTR, in fact we're still toying with the idea of expediting in our own Class B truck since she does have her Class B license but, I'd really rather have her on a Class A truck strictly as a passenger so we could spend more time together than teaming in an expediting situation would allow. The only potential problem I see in that scenario is the limited amount of storage space in a typical Class A truck for two people.

I found "space" is a trade off. That top bunk can be used as storage or as head space. Vacuum storage bags, not the ones you actually need a vacuum cleaner for and totes. Neatness, is a must, putting everything used back exactly where it had come from.

We used the top bunk, refer, micro, slow cooker and all the totes with stuff in them ( including vacuum bags). Come-a-longs kept the heavy things down, with 4x4 pieces keeping them from sliding. We used a sleeping net as a "clutter keeper", just in case something happened. ( nothing like even the idea of getting hit in the head with dishes)

My wife used to ride with me all the time when I was OTR and was/is great company. Space can be an issue but still be done. We were in cab overs back then. Plus, Having the cook and maid on board can save alot of time.

Have been getting some real good info on here. We appreciate everyone's input. Myself as well as my wife are really interested and have been searching on here for the best company that will let us travel together. We are aware of all the pros and cons of traveling together and very excited to start. It may still be a while before we finish up here in Korea but as soon as we get back to the USA we want to have everything worked out. School, Company and so on, so all this info has been great, Thanks !
