Anyone read or hear about this norfolk southern crap?

    Not quite that bad, my Olds weighs about 2 ton with a driver and passenger, and gets 30 mpg on trips approximating a haul in the truck, pretty small car to weigh a ton. Gasoline is not as high in energy, (BTUs) as is diesel, probably about 75% of the energy in diesel.

    Ok, 2 tons. That gets it up to 60 ton-miles. And if gasoline only contains 75% of the energy, we can multiply the 60 by four-thirds to get the actual amount of energy compared. That'd put them up to a whopping 80 ton-miles/gallon.

    On tires, the bigger the load, the more efficient the use of fuel, delivery trucks aren't much better than cars.
