Friction meaningless ?... C'Mon.
Viscosity is resistance to flow... Pressure
Friction is what wears out the motor.
The two are not hand in hand.
The 10-30 oils have been shown to reduce wear because they flow faster on startup and remove heat quicker during operation.
On a ISX for example, they also get rid of the cam erosion problem caused by lack of flow induced by 15-40 oils.
Etc. Etc.
However, compatibility with a 10-30 or 5-30 depends on the engine... How modern.
OP,
Even your older 12.7 60 series Detroit works VERY well on 10-30 oils......
guaranteed you will see quicker oil pressure in the winter and improved fuel economy across the board from less internal friction compared to 15-40.
Depending on the brand you use, stick with the same brand of you can when you go to the 10-30 oil. It keeps additive packages similar.
Anyone switch form 15w40 to 10w30 in 12.7 Detroit’s?
