I recently got a credit card with no fee (and also no frills) to use to pay for hotel rooms in the event I break down. I'll just pay it off when the company reimburses me.
I was wondering though if any of you guys take it a bit further and use a charge card like an American Express or some sort of credit card with a good rewards program to pay for your road expenses and pay it off every month.
For those of you that do, is it easier to keep track of your expenses? Also, do you accumulate enough points or rewards over the course of a year that you can say pay for a flight or hotel for vacation?
If this has been discussed ad nauseam in the past, I apologize in advance for not searching.
Anyone use a charge card for road expenses?

I prefer using a debit card for road expenses. You can also use a credit card, but I would not want to purchase fuel with most credit cards. It will increase your fuel costs by about $0.06/gallon at most of the major truck stops. I have used an American Express card for major repairs, but prefer just paying cash with a debit card. Using a debit card, my costs are itemized and I have a better record for taxes.

I used a Visa card from a credit union for meals, etc road expenses. No frills, just low interest. Paid it off each month. Just kept $30-$40 dollars in cash.

Having a charge card is a great way to further build your credit. Using it for large purchases will add up quick, so I seriously don't advise you to pay for hotel costs. Let the company take it out of your check and reimburse you on the same check so it'll be no hassle to you. Use it for food purchases and whatnot.

Either way, money charged to a card and then paid off when reimbursed the next week and deducting and reimbursing on the same check ends up the same. -
credit cards are a quick way for a young driver to get behind them. last two years of trucking used a debit card, then had everything at the end of the year for taxes. had a american express for back up never used it, they did send me a letter that i needed to use the card at least once a year. have been audited by the irs and that old line, i put everything in a box and let them figure it out, will not work in your favor. have a nice day and b careful

Credit cards are very handy for most people, and having one can be a plus. I prefer cards with shy high interest rates, especially ones with good bonus points. The high rates make me pay them off 100% every mouth.
FYI about Debit Cards, they lack the federal protections the credit cards come with for free. If you're ever killing time on the net Goggle 'dangers of debit cards' and read some of the links.
When I met my wife she felt a credit card balance was no big deal. Once she got a clue about all the work she would do to find a sale and save 10-20% then spend 20-30% in interest she stopped sending her money to the bankers. She still sends it to the store owners, but now she can send them 10-20% more. Ha HaPmracing and david123abc Thank this. -
People tend to spend more money when they use credit cards. It is not a bad idea to have a credit card as a backup, but I don't want one for every day expenses.
