I was going to suggest Ebay for used Rigmasters. There use to be tons of them for sale but not anymore. I think this APU thing has really caught on.

Mine actually had the cat engine in it. It was all the time blowing the oil out of itself and had a lot of overheating issues.

Well it really wasn't a bad unit. I had one from brand new to 4500hrs on the last company truck with yellow motor which since rigmaster offered a cat motor I'm assuming it what it was. It needed a rear main seal at about 3000 hrs, it burned a little coolant(was self contained on coolant) and a little oil, and went though compressor belts every 500hrs which the mechanics always had trouble getting back on. I did like the control panel better than some of the other ones. Even though your not planning on using it for a/c the unit just didn't seem to cool the truck enough above the mid to upper 80º's at an outside temp of 90º inside would be 85º and it wasn't a black or dark colored truck either. A/C didn't really blow very well out of the vents, though rigmaster now offers a double blower which I didn't have. But it wasn't junk it worked and ran and did what I needed it to do, it just all and all stuck me as great fleet unit (they need for 3-4yrs) and not so much as good o/o unit. But then if you just need it as a generator it might be a good apu for you I mean no sense in over buying for what you need you know.

Ya I forgot to mention the original design was with the cooling fan underneath the unit so rocks and debris would get kicked up in there and fry the cooling fan and I had that happen twice to me too. I think rigmaster has since put the fan on the side resolving the issue the company(Prime) later modified mine and put the fan on the side and never had a problem again.

Throws a belt every 500 hours? Seems excessive. That would be once every two months during a hot summer.

@Skate-Board hows yours do on belts? What is the oil change interval? I guess if I was in there already changing the oil a belt wouldn't be so bad.

Okay, this is good for my used market shopping tips. Avoid the underneath fan model. Check.

Most people who have an older Rigmaster don't realize they replaced the thermostat inside the box under the bunk that turns the compressor on and off. The one they originally had turned the compressor on at like 50 degrees and off at 40. The new one is like 40 and 35. HUGE difference. It's the same thermostat used in most trucks. A simple fix with big results.

Were you able to integrate your Rigmaster thermostat to kick the gen on and off with your rear mounted thru the wall AC?

I don't go through any belts at all. Maybe once a year I replace them all. Your really not suppose to tighten them. They are already pre shrunk. You can put new belts on without loosening any bolts. It's a trick but you learn to do it.

The oil change interval depends on your oil pan. In 2005 then went to a large oil pan. I change it once a year. Well, I don't, the dealer does in Gretna, NE. I just had mine done. I do it every Fall. Glow plus, oil, fuel filter, oil filter, air filter and new belts. I also have anything replaced. This time I had new cover mounts installed top and bottom and a new air filter enclosure. Things wear out and get loose. My air filter would make a lot of noise sucking in air and wasn't tight anymore.

I know you all paid a lot for your APU's but that does not mean they should last 20 years. You have to do regular maintenance and replace worn out parts instead of duct tape and Mickey Mouse fixes!!!!

One of my side panels is rusting out around the holes where it attaches. Next time I'm in NE I'll a new one installed.
