AAAHH yes -but you are a well seasoned driver that has learned whats really important for yourself. I am guessing you have a nice list of "what the company can do for you" before you even consider them.
Unfortunately the "Newbies just have to suck it up" or start their own list.
Thats the great thing about this site -full of info to keep drivers informed about the different companies and their policies.

Look into a Buddy Heater or Big Buddy Heater. I have both and use them all winter in my ice and spear houses. They burn very clean, have a low oxygen shut off and if they are so much as wiggled they shut down.

These type of heaters have come a long way in the last few years. I used to sit in my houses with my eyes burning barely able to breathe with some of the heaters that were on the market. No longer a problem using Buddy Heaters.

I suggest you read the fmcsa rules as posted.

They are still illegal to be in the truck.

Typical bs the people who make these carriers the money the 'drivers 'are treated like .... The world over. but I would still rather be a truck driver in Europe or North America than say the Philippines or another 3rd world country .where the trucks are held together with wire and duct tape but this Idling policy is bs 'modern trucks engines are very well advance with regards to pollution and sulphur they churn out 'and company's should be forced to fit APU's to there trucks.... the co's are making billions and sit in a heated and cooled office Chaucer driven cars'personal jets to carry them around but still the driver is treated like .... I'm afraid this will never change anyone know if the mega carriers in the top 5 fit APU's to there trucks .

I'd explain the same thing to your boss and ask to remove the idle restriction and to trust you to idle only when needed. If he can't do that then I would say see you later cheapscate. You sleep in that cold truck.

Always check those little things when job hunting. They are red flags to how you will be treated.

If you dont want to make waves, tell them your only running Mexicali to Atlanta and down in the winter, and British Columbia to Newfoundland and north in the summer. LOL

If you can't get the idle restrictions changed, a Zippo Hand Warmer slipped into your shirt pocket inside your jacket will keep you plenty warm. If you don't have any meat on your bones or run north a lot and want a backup, get two of them. The Hand Warmer and a can of lighter fluid cost about $20 and will keep you warm for 12-16 hours on a fill.
I dont even drive and it pisses me off, I also see the original poster has 4 years in --find another company -dont put up with that. Unless you are are making some unbelievable money out there you should at least be comfortable to offset what might be some standard wages or below -i dunno.
I think the other temperature extreme might be even worse -sitting in some black truck down in texas in the summer. I think if i went back to driving the first question i would have is "Do you equip your trucks with APU's" or let them idle ?.
If they dont do that for the driver, probably not much will be better for them either.
Geez, it makes me a little sick some of the drivers out there are getting used like toilet paper.
As trucking is a hazardous occupation, the unsafe conditions that "one" may pose do to idling polices isn't worth it. No amount of money is ever worth your life. Money is replaceable, your life isn't.
