Years ago, i worked with a guy who was fired from our company(he had only been with this company about 2 years) and then got hired on with Watkins motor lines as a company driver. The way this guy explained it, most of the drivers at Watkins were contractors and owned their own trucks and there were only a few drivers who were company drivers. Not long after he was hired on, fedex freight purchased Watkins and turned them into Fedex National ltl. He explained they basically rehired all the drivers who were contractors, as company employees. Since he was one of the few existing company drivers, all these contractors were hired in underneath him, putting him at number 3 or 4 on the list of almost 40 drivers.
