Since I am an OOIDA member, I decided to call them for information on JCT. Of course the first thing out of her mouth is, "OOIDA strongly discourages anyone to do a lease purchase with anyone." Then she says they have had four claims against JCT. One was a driver who swapped trucks and was being charged for repairs on the first truck and felt he should not have to pay. Well, it was determined he had to pay. They had a claim the first of the year from a driver who said his contract called for him to be paid $0.93/mile and he was paid $0.90. OOIDA closed the claim because the driver never submitted the documentation (I assume he got it straightened out with JCT). There was a claim for non-payment of $2300+ from February of this year where JCT paid what was determined was owed. I believe she said this was an escrow account issue. The other claim was for $160.00 but she didn't go into details. She then said, "Looks like we have had a lot of claims against them." I stated that 4 out of the hundreds of drivers who have driven for them and for all the years they have been in business, it didn't sound to me like there were a lot of claims. Again, she reiterated OOIDA's discouragement of lease purchasing. So I said that for some of us that is the only way we can move to owner operator, especially with today's tight credit market. She came back with a comment about company drivers making more to which I shared the numbers from drivers I have talked to who are netting in excess of $1K per week where as a company driver you would be lucky to net $700. It is interesting that OOIDA has no problem taking dues money from all these individuals who are in lease programs but they don't want you to do it. I had a similar discussion with them regarding Prime. When I pointed out some of the errors in their argument the man finally admitted that, "Maybe we just have an attitude towards these programs."If it weren't for the Corporate Lodging Card I have that gives great hotel discounts which I got through them, I might consider cancelling my membership. They want people to buy trucks to become o/o but their loan program stinks from what I have seen. If they were so interested in people buying rather than leasing they would have a better plan. Just my two cents for today, which would probably only buy me two drops of fuel.

Sounds like OOIDA is gonna give you their policy then try to figure out how to justify it.

I was listening to Kevin Rutherford on Sirius Road Dog Trucking Channel the other day and he said, "IF a person is willing to run it like a true business now is the BEST time to become an owner operator." For buying, he stated that he has never seen truck prices this good. He doesn't like lease purchase but said, if you can find the right deal and it is your only avenue, then it still could be a good way to go. Biggest key is running it like a business. One of the most important areas is not seeing your income go from say $700 net as a company driver to $1300 net as an l/o or o/o and saying, "Wow! I have a $600 a week pay increase." You should set a salary for yourself at a point where you can get everything covered and then be putting the rest aside. Maybe set up a bonus system for yourself to help you work smarter. In other words, treat yourself as a company driver. This system will help ensure you have something to fall back on should you face a major repair. It would also enable you to not have to run as hard in a few years since you would have money to cover expenses. In fact, since Landstar allows you to run when and as much as you want, this is an excellent way to prepare for that. If you can have two or three months weekly income saved up, then you can easily run two and take one or two off, if that is what you chose to do.

If you read my other posts ty, but if not i will give the run down for this company in a nutshell. My husband drives but i am with him. I navigate. God bless google and mapquest lol.

1. This is what was said by mr. Christner himself in my husband's orientation. Please don't be late for loads. The things he said he could understand what would cause you to be late is the bad weather and truck breakdown. But if you go to a casino or overslept or just like to hang out at truckstops then there would be a problem. Which is understandable. He commends the drivers who are always on time. He just commended a man a week ago for doing a million miles. Mr. Christner is more than a fair man. He backs his drivers up 100%. He sees you're doing a good job for him, he's there for his drivers. Thanks to the help of mapquest and google, hubby and i were never late. My hubby is a solo driver and this past load we were 16 hrs ahead of schedule and the load before that we were 24 hours ahead of schedule. Our dm saw that and said to us, "you guys are awesome." that's such a great feeling. My hubby was grinning from ear to ear on that one. We were no less than 4 hours ahead of schedule. You plan it just right and it can be done. Jct gives you enough time to get to the do1 so there isn't no reason to be late.

2. Mr. Christner doesn't put with liars and neither does the staff. Please be honest with them. The staff are a great bunch of people. The planners see how you're running and if you're doing a great job, no sooner you drop a load you have another one when you do your macro 10 (empty call).

3. Tolls. Jct does have an ipass, ezpass, and prepass. If perchance there isn't a toll one of those 3 covers, you send in a macro requesting for toll and they send you an ar number for an efs check so it can be covered. Mr. Christner doens't mind at all he said as long as it gets the job done. Just be sure to send in a toll receipt.

4. With jct you can fuel up anywhere you want. If you need fuel and the only place is joe smith's little gas station on the corner you can fuel up there. If they don't take the fuel card, then it will come out of your pocket, but it beats calling breakdown. Mr. Christner has an account with flying j and if you fuel up there you get back either it's 2 cents a gallon or 2% a gallon. Not sure. We usually gas up at loves for the fact of the points you get free showers and soda for the month. You get points at flying j and ta too with their road king card but i'm sure you knew that lol.

5. You do have a medical and dental plan with jct haven't looked much into that yet.

6. Weekly deductions from your paycheck is as follows: 234.00 (under other deductions), your fuel and your truck payment. That's it. Mr. Christner pays for all highway/road taxes, permits, and the other whole nine yards.

7. If you request home time, just let your dm know two weeks ahead of time so they have time to plan. Same as if you want to take a couple of days off or time off, let them know two weeks ahead.

8. Some of the bennies with jct is you get paid holidays. Every quarter if you don't have no accidents or traffic tickets you get a $900.00 bonus. If you conserve fuel you get a fuel bonus. If you recruit someone and they mention your name to the recruiter at jct you get $1,250.00 which is paid in installments.

9. After orientation when you go and get your truck and it's not the one you want, just tell a man named john there what you want and you will be routed back to the sapulpa, ok yard to get the truck you wanted in 90 days. I can't stress enough to get an apu on your truck because jct does a lot of runs to california and there is a no idle law in that state. You get caught idling in that state and it's a nice fine, but i'm sure you knew that lol. We go back in 57 days to get our truck. The one we got now stinks. We want an international with an apu. The room in these freighshakers stinks. You have to be twiggy to move in them.

i hate to tell u and other ppl .... But john christner trucking stinks........ Ive got plenty of driver s over there including me tht will tell u different............ U start turning down a loads thy will sit u to teach u a lesson ....... Thy run illegal as hell i ran sometimes up to 17,500 miles a month over there but usually about 15 or 16.000 ive got all my paper work to prove it ....... Ull get along great with thm if u kiss there butt ull do just fine....... The dispatchers will lie to u trust me ....... I swear on my brothers grave about these guys.....

Oklahoma-Cowboy For a solo driver 15,000 to16,000 is legal. BTW, if you run illegal, it's no one's fault but your own. 1. If you have the evidence turn it over to DOT. 2. Once you report it to DOT you become a Federal Whistle Blower (Under Federal Law and DOT). Once you file your compliant by law they cannot terminate you, cut your miles, harass or punish in any way, nor can they place any adverse info on your DAC report.

That is a shame! Doesn't there exist a company that isn't a revolving door anymore? I can only name a couple of companies that drivers were absolutely happy to work for. You will not find anyone complaining or praising these companies on this site though.

John christner does not have a good maintance program if u get work done at the yard expect to be her for a day on a pm service n good luck on getting ur truck fixed here after a accident u might see ur trk in 3 weeks if that
