A lot of people around here buy the cheapest truck possible and run the #### out of it, then buy another cheap truck. Rinse and repeat.

My manual says 1475 is the sweet spot, so I always keep it at 1400-1500, go to 1800 on hills.
I got that truck with 930k with unknown history, so that did not help.
The 1.9 mil has an autoshift and it shifts at about 1600rpm

Doesn’t sound like you’re lugging it then.
Maybe it was just certain years that fretted worse than others. I’m not sure.

    What year are your engines?

1.9 mil is Jan 2001, 1.2 mil is oct 2002.
The 2001 has a crankshaft made in Germany and 02 made in USA

No that won't happen. The fmcsa has a grandfather rule to live by, one reason why you don't see retrofitting of trucks with emissions and safety equipment.

the only factor that take the old trucks off the road is insurance companies and I doubt we will see that other than one or two companies.

The 2000 FLD I bought in January just rolled over 1.4mil on the odometer. ECM on the CAT C12 shows 1.5mil. Service records from the previous two O/Os and the cat dealer shows 4 injectors replaced, one water pump, and main bearings replaced because the failed water pump put water into the oil.

Still pulling strong without a hint of problems.

Just look at the futures market its all about supply and demand simple economics. When supply is great and demand is less prices plummet, when supply is low and demand is great prices rise. whether its wheat, sugar, oil or pre - owned trucks the supply and demand rule always applies.

    1998 Volvo D12A.

Only problem emerged was a cracked head (fuel line). Made it piss fuel diluted oil thru the breather pipe. Fixed that for under $4K (replaced head + head gasket). Mechanic said engine looked cleaner than a 100K motor. Camshaft/Lobes had no damage, even at 700K original miles. No smoke, under load, or even after extended idle.
