In general, most of the beverage (beer, Pepsi, Coke, etc.) companies work the same way.
Usually have two divisions / departments, one that does bulk deliveries to grocery stores and other places that receive large amounts of product and another one that does smaller retail (gas stations, convenience stores, etc.) and vending machines. New employees usually end up with the least desired retail routes while the guys that have been there a while get the easier bulk routes.
Your routes will typically start early in the morning on the retail side or later at night on the bulk side. When I worked at Pepsi years ago, I would start as early as 3:30am or as late as 5:00am depending on the route and load for the day.
Pay is going to depend on several factors like whether or not that particular location is unionized, the average pay rate in that area, and so on. Again, when I was at Pepsi, we were paid $500 per week salary with a "bonus" of 10 cents per case (50 cents for each 5 gallon syrup box) delivered and I would average out to about $650 - $700 net pay every week, but that was also working 60 - 70 hours per week as well, so that made the hourly average in the $10 - $12 per hour range which was below average.
I think Coke utilizes electric pallet jacks which is leaps and bounds better than the way I did it - a 2-wheel dolly (hand truck). I still have health issues from that job almost 10 years later.
Hopefully a current or recent employee will be along to provide more direct information.AnthonyM757 Thanks this. -
Yeah that pallet jack sure sounds good..
I just hope this job at least pays what I'm making at my current seasonal driving gig ($17/hr) -
I know you were commenting on my pepsi thread about this, but as far as this goes it seems like the side bay trailers still use the hand truck, but if you get one of the 33ft lift gate trailers they have this thing called CooLift and im sure coke has it too...
actually its a coke truck in the video for it go figure.AnthonyM757 Thanks this.
