Apparantly, nothing on your DAC is just as bad.

I recently was contacted by a company I applied at for an OTR position, the lady on the phone (real nice by the way) said I had to send in W-2's to verify my employment for all my driving jobs because I have nothing on my DAC.

WTF!? Then, I realized. I really need to work on my paperwork organization skills because 3/4 of the house is now tore up....I found scale tickets from 2007 and a reciept from a Waffle House in Kansas......but no W-2's.....

I'm going though this myself. The company I'm trying to get on with has called me several times asking about work history. I asked if there was any problems and she said no we just have do a thorough check because of nothing on my DAC. I hope they don't ask for W-2s because I may be in the same boat as you.

I don't know man, but thats what they told me....W2's. One of the places I was an O/O for, so she took my "lease contract" that was acceptable. The other places, she wants W2's.....I literally have everything BUT....Log books, pre-trips, scale tickets......

Next on my target.......My parents house, my mother is a neat freak so I'm going to have to wait till the weekend to strike.

Forgot to add, they are willing to accept logbooks. But, it has to be for the entire lenght of the employment....So, if you're claiming XX-07 to XX-09. You have to have ALL of them......I'd imagine that would be a very long fax to transmit.....

Allowing anyone to see my W-2 forms is not going to happen! A person's income and taxes paid is a very private issue. Next thing they will be wanting to see is your record on sex. In the past 15 years, since my retirement, I have never worked for a company who participates with DAC. When an application is presented to me, I look at the very last page and if there is a consent form to allow the employer to contact DAC, I get up and walk out, not that there is anything on my record that I am concerned with, but I will not do business with anyone who does business with DAC. I don't have to, ain't going to!

I retired form a major LTL company in '96 and I have a perfect driving record and if a company cannot conduct their own background check on me without looking at my personal IRS records, they can KMA! I don't have a DAC record because I have never worked for a company that belongs to this outfit and for me to produce personal items to prove something, I don't need the job.

Gee if they had used the new DOT pre-Employment Screening Program they would have a 5 year accident and 3 year inspection history... or would we?

My experience w/ the PSP is that alot of guys didn't have accidents & inspections so they come back clean. It was recomended that the PSP, though not manditory, would be a good thing to use JUST to help prove there wasn't neglegent hiring come lawsuit time.

Any time you need to show a W-2 as proof, you should make a copy and them use a black marker to 'redact' the financial numbers along with all but the last 4 digits of your SSN...

I usually manage to find the company still in a DOT or other trucking database and I mail a request to the last address shown & wait for it to come back RTS. As long as I can document experience in addition to the closed company, I go with it. I also find that around 40% of the 'closed' companies are still in business!

When I sat thru the DOT audit they looked that we did do background checks but never examined them to see how complete they were; maybe it was just that particular auditor.

It was just another item on their checklist for the Part 391 files. Your mileage may vary.

It is refreshing to see that companies are doing checks; working with intermodal drivers I rarely get a request. If I do it is 6 months later when the guy found another greener lawn...

If you don't have a copy of your W-2s, the IRS does. You can request a copy, along with your tax returns. Call the local IRS office for the forms.
