I was looking at an application and under the "Driving History" portion it asks for number of accidents and tickets but doesn't say a time frame (like "in the last 5 years" or whatever). My record is completely clean for over four years, but I got a ticket in early '06. I also had terrible driving record when I was a dumb teenager, but that was over ten years ago. So is it better to be completely honest and list things that happened a decade ago, or not list them since they aren't on my record any more? BTW, I don't have a CDL and have never had one, these are just tickets/accidents in a regular car, I don't know if that matters.

Also, I moved from California to Washington a couple years ago. Does that matter to a trucking company? Meaning that I had a Ca driver's license my whole life, now I have a Wa license.

Here is some golden advice; get a copy of your MVR and write down everything it says on it word for word on your application. You have a pretty good driving record so you have nothing to worry about. Most companies only care about 3-5 years anyway. Also make yourself a good professional resume. This will make you stand out from the rest of the "herd". You still have to fill out the application but include your MVR and resume with it. This could be the difference in whether or not you get a new truck when it is time for you to drive! Also when attending orientation dress to impress. You will be interviewed individually while in orientation. One more very important thing, stay away from the mega-carriers! Ie: Swift, Werner, England etc... Go for the companies that aren't advertising. If they are not advertising then that means their driver turnover rate is lower which in turn means their drivers are happier working for them. Plus I would be very weary of any company that has to spend millions of dollars in advertising to get you to work for them! Find yourself a good small to medium sized company. It is going to take a little extra effort which is why most sheep go to swift and werner because you pretty much are hired if you are breathing! You are in a good state for refrigerated companies! Central Ref. runs a lot up there and are a pretty good company. Check out careersingear or bigrigjobs on the web. Good luck man and welcome to the forum!

a resume` is like a quick look or synopsis of your past employment, skills, education. you can find examples on line, just do a google search for resumes.

and if you happen to have Microsoft Works in your pc, they even have some samples as well.

or, look up "resume services" in your local yellow pages, and have one professionally made for you, at whatever they charge.
