Why is it when I am asked by the companies over the phone about past crimes, tickets, accidents or DUIs they only want the last 3, 5 or 7 years. Because I think I'm in but when i get get the application they always aske have you "EVER" had a Crime or accident or DUI.? I thought after 10 years you were good. I am not a felon but my driving record was bad 11 years ago and back but since then I am clean. Any help on this..thanks.

I am a student and I asked that same question. I found out that applications vary quite a bit in the language asking for the backgrounds. I asked the question on this forum and it came down to this: the "ever" is a way to screen folks. True, it may be WAY outside the box but it can be used for a couple reasons: (1) to check a person's integrity, and (2) to be HIGHLY selective when choosing from a HUGE pool of applicants. The "driver shortage" you may here of IMHO is a myth, but be that as it may, there are more applications than jobs I think so this is a way to weed folks out. I, too, had a DUI on my background that was reduced to a wet reckless...from 1980 no less. On one application it asked the "ever..." question, on another it asked "in the last 10" years. You know what? I answered honestly and in the end I was offered pre-hires by all 8 companies I applied to. I think honesty is the best policy...report on exactly what they ask for and don't offer anything additional. Just my $0.02 worth after lots of advice I received here. Happy hunting. Welcome to the trucking industry guys.It only gets worse.Yes cmac honesty is the best policy because whether you say anything or not or stretch the truth,compnies are going to look everything up anyway.

Yep, that's what I found out too. It's funny...I put the stuff on the app and they weren't worried about it at all. I have read here where folks DIDN'T put stuff down...stuff less "painful" than mine and they took a walk at orientation.

Tell the truth and do not try to hide a thing that they ask. Do not volunteer anything just be truthful. Try to hide something and they find out see ya.

Applications remind me of years ago when slaves were auctioned off. They would strip the slave and place him or her on the auction block, completely naked, and the buyers would offer their bids.
Today, we fill out applications and in reality, we "strip" ourselves naked and place ourselves on the auction block and ask for bids. And with DAC and CSA scores, the "bidding" has become more and more scrutinized and the perspective employee only finds himself not only naked, but now he is "dipped into a sewage pit" to see if anything will stick to him. The trucking companies are out there doing the bidding and the drivers are "stripping" waiting their turns on the auction block.
Yeah, tell the truth, while the companies are lying through their teeth. It is alright for the companies to be lairs, but don't you tell one. BS!!!mje Thanks this. -
