Anyone have this problem? I applied with Werner and the recruter called a couple days later to ask about a failure to appear I havefrom june of 2008. It was a misunderstanding on my part as to why I got it. TWerner wants to know why my license wasn`t suspended during this. I said it was because I was paying it still. They want a letter from the DMV stating that my license was not suspended at all because of this ticket. I went into the CDL only office and talked to the manager and he said they must not know how to read the MVR because if it was suspended it would sho up on my record. He also said they don`t give out letters like that and would not make a exception for me either. so I call my recruiter back and tell he what they said and she said she would turn in the info to the review board and see what they say but she doesn`t think they`ll accept that. Has anyone else had issues like this? I haven`t even got hired by them yet and I`m starting to get jerked around. well we`ll just have to wait and see I guess.

A failure to appear leads to all kinds of questions for which your answers would be questioned as well, it may be that at the present time, the large companies will decide to pass on you, it looks as if Werner might have already decided that. You might be able to reverse the direction with persistence.

This business is hard to get into for many; many also don't make it no matter what they do. Read more about the companies to which you have applied.

The failure to appear was becasue I got a ticket for out of date registration. I took care of that and the DMV signed off on the ticket and said I was good to go. I misunderstood that as I didn`t need to go to court about it. The ticket with the FTA was $536 and I`ve been paying on it but i just borrowed the money from my father in law to pay it off. I told the recruiter everything about it. If I don`t get on with them, oh well. i`m not going to cry about it I just never heard of such a issue. I`ve read most of the pages on the companies I`ve appied for and it seems Werner is one of the worst but I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. We`ll see what happens I guess.

Usually you can not get a trucking job with an unpaid ticket, no matter what, period. They assume you are a deadbeat that doesnt pay their bills. Infact, Werner takes $10 a week out of my paycheck for a "bond" and will keep doing it until it builds up $400...because they assume people are worthless. :D (I don't care because I intend on getting it back when i leave...)

But if you pay the ticket, you should be able to get it resolved i would think?

And why wasn't your license suspended? I don't get that at all? Around here, an FTA = license suspended and arrest warrant issued?

And are you SURE you don't have a warrant or anything over it that you don't know about? I tried to get on with werner right after i quit at CRST, and at first they accepted my application and just told me to call back every 2 weeks cause they had no openings. Eventually the application expired and I had to reapply, and they rejected it and would not tell me why. Period. A few months later I got a speeding ticket and was arrested for the warrant. To be perfectly honest, I'm glad it happened because otherwise i'd still be wanted and unable to work here....

But the weird part....the police told me that it is not possible for a warrant to show up on a background check. No other company I applied for found it. I think Werner is getting inside information that they don't have the authority to get on these applications. :)

Isn't FTA a criminal court thing, and not a DMV thing? Maybe you can get the records sealed? I fought my problem in court with a court appointed lawyer, won, and the court ordered that the records be *destroyed*...except for the courtroom transcript that is. :)

I`ve been accepted at 3 companies so far and Werner is the only one who said anything about it. I had to go to the DMV and ask why it wasn`t suspended and they told me because it wasn`t old enough to suspend it plus i was making payments on it. I ended up borrowing the money to have it paid off though so it won`t be a issues in the future.

I told Werner that the DMV doesn`t give letters about things like this and they ran it through their review board but I got cleared and they want to give me a orientation date.

The FTA doesn`t automaticaly = arrest warrant and suspension. At least here in Ca it doesn`t. I`ve been pulled over since and it wasn`t a issue. I also have my recod purged of all the old stuff and the FTA is no longer on there. It was actually off before I paid it off but it`s all good now.
my issue now is daycare but once thats cleared up I can take a job somewhere. I`m thinking about passing on Werner though. It`s just a gut feeling thing I`m having. ome things that were said, and some that weren`t , give me some reservations about joinging Werner at this time. Who knows though.

Werner is really picky, but they still manage to drag 1000 people a week to orientation, so obviously they have plenty of room to be picky. They also have a LOT of freight right now, so it's a great place to work ...but only if you want to work hard. Like i said, they are the only company that found out I had an arrest warrant, and that is information that the police have told me is not possible for them to find out.

And I don't live in CA, but I got a ticket there once, and Kern County Superior Court pretty clearly told me that if i got an FTA they would put a warrant out for my arrest and have my license suspended. Maybe it depends on your county.

Honestly, all trucking companies give me that gut feeling. Its a sad thing but there are truckers with years of experience that have no jobs and they have no problem with hiring people with no experience. It does NOT make sense.

Before getting into trucking I worked is sales. Every week we had at least 50 new sales reps start, we new that only a 5 to 7 would make it and be around 6 monhs later.
Anyway, my job was to make sure that all 50 seats were full on Monday, which meant I needed to have 55 to 60 scheduled, because there were always no shows and all. Founately we always received about 200 to 250 applications a week, of which we would try to pull the 55 to 60 that were e best. Experience in sales was not always a plus, because we had a system for our rep to follow and experienced reps always had their way of doing things. New, unexperienced reps were easier to teach the system to and would follow it better, and were usually eager to succeed so they went the extra mile.
Now, we had pass on more applications than we accepeted, and we would always say we would keep it on hand for future consideration, but, we usually ust worked from the new applications.
Now, there was this gentleman that we passed on, he tried again a month later and we passed him over, he tried again and we passed. Then, one Friday I had 5 cancelations and had 2 seats open that I had to get filled, the phone rang and it was him, well, I scheduled him for Monday.
Trucking, especially with the big recruiting companies are the same way, your persistance can get you in the door. Recruiters are not equal, some work harder than others, one recruiter may pass on you, while another could get you in the door. So, with werner or the other companies, if you want in, you just have to keep knocking at the door.
I know for me my experience in sales and understanding how the system works has been of great value to me, first in getting in the door, then with my trainer, and now with dispatch to get the loads and all.

I didn`t have a problem getting in. i just had to jnp through hoops that nobody else even mentioned and honestly I couldn`t see any reason for it. They questioned why the DMV DIDN`T suspend my license. I sent them the info I had and they offered me a spot but I decided against it. I just had a bad feeling. If I was having this much trouble before i was ebven hired, what other problems would i run into with them down the road? These were my thoughts. I ended up taking a orintation date with Swift. i leave on the 15th.

I am not with werner. I work for a smaller (12 trucks) company, and have since I got out of school. I did have coffee with a werner driver about a week ago, but we mostly talked about horses.
I just see or understand that situation from my experiece in the recruiting department for a large sales company. Our reps drove company cars and there are alot of i's to dot and t's to cross, to make sure they are insured and qualified and ready to go.
I have seen what happens when a t doesn't get crossed and the rep get's let go for something that could of been prevented.
There are stories here on this board, of drivers being yanked off a truck and sent home because something caught up to them, and now it is easier to terminate them then resolve the situation.
I had no desire to go with the big training companies with their high turnover an hope for the best. I invested to much money for school (my own, not goverment) and to much time to leave it to chance.
