So me and my husband have applied with driver solutions and they put us with PAM. I have read so many bad things about both of them . We are aware that the first year is going to suck. But we are will to give this a try. I'm just scared that we will be screwed over and wind up with more debt. If anyone knows of a better school please tell me ...... thank you in dallas

What about companies based in your area? Why rely on someone else to find a company for you? Turn off the computer, get off the couch and hit the bricks. You'd be surprised about how many quality companies are near you that may give you a shot. A company doesn't need to have 2000+ drivers to be worth working for.

The path of least resistance usually has the most potholes.

I went through Driver Solutions and work for PAM, being that your a husband and wife, you guys won't be able to train together but you will be able to team together. I won't say it's the best company and I won't say it's the worst company. They have their ups and downs and I mean I have gotten to see so many places around the country then others from my town and age have seen, so go for it. I do agree with others though check to see if there are local companies in your area that will hire you in directly and you won't have to worry about paying off such a high loan if were able not to fulfill your contract. The only reason I did driver solutions was because of the proximity of the school to my house (2 hours) and I was still holding on to my jobs.

Sometimes take what you can in the beginning. Central Refrigerated has a good program for husband/wife teams. There have been many positive posts on here about PAM & C-1 for beginners. Also, in 6 mos to a year, you will have the experience to go to just about any company you desire.

Driver Solutions will screw you. Spend your own money on training at a community college. Find your own company. If you don't get picked up by either PAM or USA, you're on the hook for $6,000. I regret going to them. By the way, you'll have only three weeks to complete the total CDL process. It's easy though, completed mine in two and a half.

Your first year is only going to suck if you want it to! As a husband/wife team you are the cream of the crop and should have your pick of any company you want to drive for. Don't sacrifice yourselves because you think you are new and surely don't listen to your school recruiter! They are being paid to limit your options and send you to one of the top 5 mega - carriers! My advice is to stay away from the mega-carriers and find a good smaller to large company to drive for. Make sure to ask if they are able to keep a husband/wife team rolling and that you should be averaging 1000 miles a day. If not keep shopping until you find a company that will. My wife and I drove team and started with Central Refrigerated and had a long lasting career with them. Financially we did very, very well with them!

Take your time, do your homework and find a great company to work for right off the bat! Keep your options open and don't be afraid to think outside the box! There are many other avenues of trucking besides hauling basic freight. Another very high paying gig we had was hauling horses! We had a custom tractor trailer with a fancy 53' show trailer built for hauling pricey horses! We were paid salary instead of by the mile and also did very well there!

What ever you do don't just settle on a company because they are easy to get hired on with. You will surely regret it. I also highly recommend you stay away from these mass app companies like drivers solutions. They are there to just make money off of you and could care less where you go or what you do. They also typically only recruit for the mega-carriers. Check out Craiglist frequently and also the OOIDA website. At the very least I would recommend Central Refrigerated for you guys. They treat their husband/wife teams like gold!

If you have any questions or need any help I'll be more than glad to lend my assistance. Feel free to "pm" me!

    Good luck...
