Ok, one more question. My son will (presumably) get his CDL next week the day after he turns 21. Should he wait or will companies accept his application now for review? His school timed his training so he'd turn 21 the week they issue licenses.
He can apply now. He may want to call the recruiters after applying to let them know he is turning 21. They could possibly miss that info very easily.
I'm sure he can apply now to get the ball rolling. Just wondering why did he pick trucking as a career and what companies is he interested in?
An ad for CDL school caught his eye. He likes driving and doesnt want to work inside a building. Experienced truckers on this forum have given lots of advice on good (and bad) compaanies and recruiters already showed up the first week of school. I've been papering the forum with questions, too. Lots of helpful answers.
I was 17 when I joined the Army on the delayed entry program. I'd wait and time the applications. Sending them early they might get buried. Most schools have hiring events. You'll have him out of the nest soon enough!
Yep... signed my DEP paperwork 10 days after I turned 17. Turned 18 in BCT.... that was rather unfortunate for me.
Good point about waiting. Want him to get out on the road now so he has experience before winter. It's only one more week anyway. Here's hoping the recruiters fight over him to join their companies! Not a lot of work experience but he has two years of college and a current part-time job he's keeping until he's hired into trucking.
And please let it not be a post like, "Oh, wow.. he just got offered an owner/operator position with England! Gonna make so much money!"
