Upon relocating to another state, you’re required to take the hazmat test again when transferring your license, regardless of when your current license is set to expire. So if applying for another job in another state, it would technically make sense to just wait until relocating before taking the test (if you weren’t already using the hazmat) instead of getting the endorsement, and having to test again upon relocating. But would it look better to the employer already have the endorsement when applying? I’d assume it would because it shows you’re capable of passing the test, versus claiming to take the test upon relocating before taking.
Applying for a hazmat job in another state; should you already have the endorsement?

been there, done that..
they probably wont even give you the job if you don't currently have hazmat, transferring should go smooth when you already have the endorsement aswell -
EXACTLY RIGHT.
There is a difference between assuming you CAN pass the HazMat endorsement test and actually passing the same test.
Sometimes the ad for the job will say something like "must get HazMat endorsement within X days of being hired." In those cases, go ahead and apply for the job without the HM. Most employers are probably just going to reject your application, if the job requires HM, if you don't have it when you apply. The background check could take a week or it could take several weeks to be completed. I don't know if the "govt shutdown" has slowed background checks or not.The other stuff necessary for HM can be completed in 2 days. -
Another background check would be required as well for relocating wouldn’t it?
