I know this is a long shot, but I've already tried reddit and have only gotten one persons help. I am applying for a training scholarship through my local unemployment office, and for my application I need to "interview" 3 OTR truckers. It's for IITR, truck driving school. I guess I'm just reaching out here to see if maybe a couple of people are willing to answer 16 questions for me? I can do it in a message or over email. You don't even have to give me your real name if that bothers you. Anyone wanna help a girl out lol

    Dave_in_AZ Thanks this.

If that will help me get replies lol

Just kidding but yeah I'll post the questions
    There's quite a few though

    1. What do you like best about your job?
    2. What so you like least about your job?
    3. If you were to become unemployed, how difficult would it be to find a job in a similar occupation?
    4. How hard is it for an experienced person to find employment in this occupation?
    5. Give me an example of a typical day of work.
    6. Is this a high stress position? If so, what makes it stressful?
    7. What are the opportunities for advancement?
    8. Does this occupation typically provide benefits? A retirement plan?
    9. What kind of training, education, and experience would you recommend to get into this field?
    10. What hours and days so you typically work? Do you have to spend time working outside of these hours? (Preparation, maintenance of equipment, overtime, meetings, volunteer work)
    11. Are there other qualifications needed for this job? (Strength, good eyesight, specific skills or abilities)
    12. Do you typically work with co-workers, customers or alone?
    13. Are there any continuing educational requirements for this occupation?
    14. Do you believe this occupation is going to exist 5 years from now?
    15. Any additional insight on what I should be doing to prepare for this position?
    16. What advice would you offer someone new in this occupation?

    1) Everything.
    2) Freight agents, and other lying, cheating, thieving, people associated with our industry.
    3) 10 minutes.
    4) 10 minutes. Seasoned drivers with good records are in high demand.
    5) Wake up. Pre trip truck. Get breakfast and coffee, down the road. Stop in 4 hours or so for a break. Do the same in roughly another 4 hours. A few hours later find a place to park, feed the cats, shower, eat, blog on TTR, go to bed.
    6) Yes, at times. The motoring public at large, have not a clue what it takes not to kill or maim them in a big truck.
    7) Sky is the limit as long as you are a safe driver, and hard working.
    8) Some companies do, some don't.
    9) Math is needed. Navigation is needed. Basic mechanical aptitude is very helpful.
    10) It's all consuming, this career. There is a tremendous amount of effort needed, as there are countless small tasks to be tended to, even as a local driver.
    11) You must pass a basic DOT physical that shows you are reasonably healthy. Some specialized types of employment require great stamina and strength, as you will be doing a lot of repeated lifting.
    12) Alone.
    13) Safe driving courses. Accounting or book keeping. Multi languages are a big plus.
    14) Yes.
    15) Have a goal of where you want to be as a professional truck driver 3 years from now, and a course of action set on how to get there.

You can get my personal information from the mods if you need it, you have my permission. Good luck.
