Could be a few things. Mine did this last week. Just a broken wire.

Cleaned up grounds and that fixed the ALT code. Still not getting fantastic amperage at the battery bank.

a 1000 watt load will draw the voltage down to 11.8 volts at the battery (4 AGM deep cycle/starter hybrid batteries). I don't think that should be happening though.

I don't have a load tester that I can put closer to the alternator right now to test its output there, voltage is 14.2 off the back of the alternator, 13.8 off the batteries.

The only thing I can think of is that I need to put a heavier gauge wire (currently has what looks like 4 gauge) from the battery bank to the APU. It does run around 10-12 feet of wire from the looks of it so 4 gauge might be the culprit for voltage drop and poor output.

All in all, the thread should help anyone with this issue as far as alternator fitting questions.

Thank you to everyone who chimed in.

Run a 10 gauge wire, with soldered connections, directly from the alternator charging post to the batteries. Then make sure the ground cable connections are clean and tight. I think 10 gauge is about as big as you can go for the charging post. Maybe 8 gauge.

Another thing I did with mine was eliminated the 50 amp maxi-fuse under the starter (supplies power to the control board). I cut the wire at the fuse, pulled it back through the harness and cut it just long enough to go directly to the batteries. I put a new fuse at the batteries.
