I'm fine with window units as long as there's one in the room I'm in. My concern is trying to sleep in a hot or cold vehicle. I can't even do it at home in bed. If an inverter is not powerful enough to run the A/C and heater, and there's no APU, and they don't want me idling, what am I suppose to do, suffer? So it's either APU or idle, and no, I'm not paying anyone to have A/C or heat, awake or asleep.

It only takes one to freeze to death.

Oh great, just what I needed to hear. Add it to the list of reasons not to get into trucking.
I wonder how truckers are doing it when I see them in Walmart parking lots at night and there's no sound of anything at all and it's still 97 degrees at 3 am in the summer like it's been this year. APUs are like generators but they don't make noise? Is it feasible to avoid truck stops for sleeping altogether, or is it a necessary evil you can't avoid?
