Every one, here's a comment you can laugh at from a dumb newbie.

I started looking up these products and I have to admit I'm surprised at the designs and the requirements. Given the direction the world of regulation and fuel costs are going it would seem these would be designed into the tractor. Thinking strictly technical, Why not a top mounted RV style/HVAC heat pump with supplemental heat. In the engine compartment they could place a small 10hp motor to run a 120VAC 50amp core to power the sleepers electrical and the RV HVAC.

I don't understand why the manufactures do not design in the APU, at least as an available option. The system would be simpler, lighter, and less expensive.

Not sure that kind of setup would be any better than a regular APU. You'd still have to route the air circulation system through the truck, as well as wiring. Plus I believe most current APU engines have higher hp ratings than you suggested. As far as the HVAC system, you'd still have to have a compressor, evaporator, condenser, and receiver-drier. You'd have to put those somewhere, and the whole HVAC system weighs something. I think on TriPacs, it's about 70 pounds. Plus, in order to get adequate cooling out of it, you'd have to put the condenser and evaporator somewhere away from the engine, because of the heat of the motor. And I don't know that the entire setup would weigh that much less than a regular APU

Just want to share my thoughts on this.I purchased a HP 2000 in august and has been problems from the first hour of service the first day an hour after was installed it was pouring fuel all over.Poor installation,The first trip out the exhaust system fell off.And the list goes on and on only has around 600 hrs.on it and after every trip out I have had to take it back for some kind of problem/And to add to all this I have been to other HP 2000 shops and they refuse to work on them because Parks wont pay there warranty claims.Just buyer beware. And know it is broke down again

I have heard really bad things about HP2000 APUs all over the internet. Basically everybody says they suck. Should have got a TriPac, they are the best!
