oh, about five years ago or so, some mandate came down from the feds to eliminate the 10 codes from the Law Enforcement radios. This apparently was a means for making radio communication between different agencies easier during these days of national security issues. After that notice I never heard much again and everyone at the PD still used them on and off, some would say a ten code or some would just say clear or some other lingo. Radio in my experience is like it's own little language and you might or might not hear 10 codes or other codes depending upon who you are talking with. Kids these days have all their own codes like WTH, WTF, etc.....IDK them all LOL.

It's called plain speech. And as one who has worked inter-agency events, it's much better than all that 10-XX crap. Our local PD/FD still use them, and all their CODE X crud.

But for this radio op.. Plain speech is the only way to go.. I don't even like using Qcodes on Ham Radio..

It's been a long time since I heard a 10-100, but occasionally hear a 10-20, or just 20. Seldom have I heard anyone hollar 10-33, but once in a great while a 10-36.

    Many of us are 51-50.
    Most don't realize it, however.

Not only have the 10 codes gone by the wayside, so has the break.

    Break 1-9, break(er) 1-9...
A common courtesy when entering a channel.

Politeness and protocol has taken a back seat with the latest generations, it seems.
